This day i received two mails from aviatia.ro (a romanian aviation forum, in romanian language-for who don't know yet about this one) with this "header": "Will Israel's New Trainers Come From Romania?"
This two links say much better what is the subject: http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/2005/1...srael/index.php http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/2005/1...dated/index.php Iama |

According to a December article of edefense, the contract to buy and upgrade F16A/Bs will be only a supplement to a later deal to buy F16C/Ds. -------------------- I

Yup, apparently we should accept the idea that there are not so much money to re-equip RoAF. F16 comes in handy and the price is good. Afterall we can still sell these 29s to make an extra buck. I wonder what are the rationales behind the decision to preserve them? I know few countries eager to buy them for good money

Tomcat, what do you think about the F/A-18E Block II (AESA) Super Bug? it's projected to cost just 40mil $
"Predictably, Boeing foresaw the prospect of a JSF loss, and has been improving the F/A-18E/F program as much as possible. It is adding a new active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar into the design, and implementing a cost-cutting campaign. In September 2001, it announced a redesign of the forward fuselage to accommodate the new APG-79 AESA radar and other new systems while simultaneously reducing production costs. The objective price of a Block 2 F/A-18E/F with AESA is now $40 million, a reduction of over $10 million from today’s price." http://www.aiaa.org/aerospace/Article.cfm?...chiveIssueID=23 |

Source: http://photos.airliners.net With its AN/APG-79 AESA radar it should be second to none at BVR, it's a true 4.5 gen aircraft and it also carries an imense a2g and a2a payload and all of this at just $40mil! [edited by admin] This post has been edited by Victor on March 31, 2006 06:14 am |

AlexC ...now you[re talking ..
It would be one of my first picks. I always liked Naval Planes . Also twin engine ..we won't lost many planes to bird ingestion in the only engine. SO the new plane must be US made (sorry but most advanced weapons came from US, european weapon integration can be done in US planes , EU is wiling to provide support for that, US usually don't ) Also Eurofighter might be handy. |
