Here is where the river doftana Meets whit Prahova river, the first crash location are sommewhere around this intersection, and the second plane (the one from the image that still flyes whit smoke) crashed a bit further by my calculation but we can not be sure, we could not go deeper on the river becouse time has already runned out sad.gif

Were these aircraft part of Tidalwave and attacked Campina? It is odd that they strayed to the east of their target.

I know very well that Steaua Romana refinery in Campina was also a target on 1 August 1943. My question was: were the two aircraft you searched for part of Tidalwave or not?

As Cip mentioned, I came with more details about our trip to Campina.

First of all we go there with some data and pictures about the two B-24 crashed near Campina on 1 august '43. From the Scorpions group, 3 liberators were hit by AA over "Steaua Romana" refinerries by AA. Two of them, Eager-Eagle and Sand-Witch crashed near South of Campina and the third one "Chatanooga Choo Choo" managed a force landing aprox 25 Km south west of Campina on princess Caradja land near Nedelea village.
The " Sand-Witch" crashed in south west of Campina on a river bed of Doftana aprox. 500m west of old bridge of the former National Road.
The "Eager Eagle" crashed on west of Campina on the river bed of Prahova at the end of confluence with river Doftana.

1.The start
In the picture below you can see Cip preparing his stuff ( metal detecting device in pack) for our reserch.

As Cip mentioned this nice guy from Banesti village ( together with his nephews ) help us with the exact position of AA guns on south hills of Campina. One of these position on the hill (behind him in the picture) was still in function until last year.
And also from him we got the information that the B-24 crashed on the west side of the old bridge.
