All,
On an earlier thread, the first and second class recipients of the Mihai Vitaezul Order from WWII were listed. I was wondering if anyone would have a list of the recipients of the same classes, but from WWI? All help will be greatly appreciated. I am also curious if there were any recipients between the wars? Victor,
Thank you for the list and quick reply. I have another question, could someone be awarded the Mihai Viteazul Order without a royal decree? I ask since I have seen photos of King Alexander I of Serbia and Polish Marshal Pilsudski wearing what appear to be the 1st and 2nd class of the order. All help appreciated. Thanks again. John |

According to the Royal Army and Military History Museum in Brussels, King Albert I of Belgium (1909-1934) had all three classes of the Order of Michael the Brave.

No, it could not have been awarded without a Royal Decree. However, the author of the list might have missed several decrees in the Monitorul Oficial. It is not that difficult to do it, given the size of a monthly edition (thousands of pages).

Should we therefore add King Alexander I of Serbia, King Albert I of Belgium and Marshal J. Pilsudski of Poland to the list of pre-WWII recipients of the Order of Michael the Brave? |

If you say you have a source which indicates it, do it, but mention the source (other than MO).

As I said in my original quote, the Royal Army and Military History Museum in Brussels gives the list (with images) of the orders of King Albert I of Belgium. Among them there is the insignia of all three classes of the Order of Michael the Brave.
It would also be interesting if JohnW could post here the photos of King Alexander I of Serbia and Marshal J. Pilsudski of Poland wearing the insignia of this Romanian order. |

Thanks for the images JohnW.
Your link for Alexander I of Serbia does not work properly. However, I searched Corbis again for "Alexander I" and I found it. |

King George V of the United Kingdom (1910-1936) might also have received the first class of the Order of Michael the Brave.
Corbis has this photo of King Ferdinand and King George V taken during the May 1924 visit of the Romanian king to London. King George V seems to be wearing the two topmost Romanian orders: the Order of Carol I and the Order of Michael the Brave. |

Question.
Why aren't the Michael the Brave holders listed in the awards section? I think the 1st and 2nd class recipients should be listed at least. WW1 and WW2... |

Would somecollectors post there MV2 on this site. Would go nicely with this thread. I don't think I have seen more than one picture of a Romanian wearing the MV2 and only Antonescu wearing a MV1. Are there pictures of men wearing these orders in the 1st and second class?
I am not counting Royalty but I guess those picutres are also nice to see. |
