Mytzu,

One more correction for your map:

On your map you have "Midauseni". The correct name is "Miclauseni", according to the 4th Army's Journal of Operations.

You can read it at the military archives in Pitesti.

If you're looking for one or two specific days, I can post here or email you a scan of those pages if you wish. But I only have a few weeks in August '44, September '44, December '44, and Feb/March '45.

In Miclăuşeni there is an interesting palace of the Sturza family. The palace fared surprisingly well the war, only to be damaged later...

Not that much. Among other things, it was featured in the movie Orient Express by Sergiu Nicolaescu.

After the war it housed an orphanage and/or an asylum. Unfortunately this resulted in much destruction to the building.

Carol,

A couple of questions, if you don't mind:

Is the Sturza building you found in the village of Miclauseni or is it in its vicinity? Is it in an isolated area?
Also, how far is Miclauseni from Suceava (approximately).

Thanks.

The palace is somewhere south of Iasi. It is near the village of Miclauseni, in a forest. I visited it last year, when it was still under renovation.

During the communist times, this great palace was used as an orphanage.

Dragos03 has answered the first two questions, so it remains only the one about distance. I would guess about 80-100 km from Suceava, depending on the route you choose.

On the highway from Târgu Frumos to Roman, just before exiting Iaşi County there is a road to Butea. The village of Miclăuşeni is part of comuna Butea (what is English for comună?).

P.S. I have never been there (in contrast to Dragos03).
