I'd like to invite everyone to post their favorite WWII pics found on the internet.
In order to post the pictures, they need to be already present on a website. You will need to use the "Image" button and paste each picture's URL.

Hopefully, we'll build a nice collection that's currently dispersed across various corners of the internet. And since we're using URL's to display each image, this won't take away any of this forum's storage space.

Generally front line troops did not use Adrian model 1916 helmets. These were generally issued to second line troops, like AA gunners for example. But sometimes these troops also came under direct fire, so soldiers wearing them also could have seen batle.

Nice pics, Indrid. In the very first Stalingrad picture you posted, the large corner building in the background reminds me of the buildings built by Ceausescu around Unirii/Casa Poporului.....funny...

Dragos - In the last pic you posted, what tank model is that?

3rd person is General Avramescu
5th person is a German officer (can't tell the rank)
7th person is possibly General Trestioreanu

Are you sure it is an ammunition box?

I know for sure, from my grandfather, that they had available cans with sardines, "Robert" trademark, made in Portugal. He mentioned many times the Portuguese sardines they got on the Russian front.

Posted by: ioni February 13, 2004 09:24 am
You could be right! The "ammunition box" was my assumption.
But, the box could be very well what you said. It certainly has several words written on it, bit only "Portugal" is visible.

I would prefer you show these rather then the pro-american propaganda you were making earlier..regarding their 'righteous crusade' in the middle-east. It's an occupation no matter what they call it.
Let's stick to out own crusade of 1941, ok? We had a much better reason to be at war with Russia, then your friends reason to be at war with Irak.

Most of the photos on the worldwar2.ro website are courtesy of the Romanian National Military Museum. Other are shot by the authors and contributors, and are their property. Few were published from other sources that allowed non-comercial usage.

As written on the footer of the website: the information and photos on this site are for personal use only.

It could be as the source of the photo seems to be a Soviet one. In this case, it is hard to believe that they could take such a clear shot while fighting against the Romanians. Of course, there is also the possibility that the photo is captured.

Posted by: dragos June 28, 2004 03:07 pm
If the photo is taken in October 1944, then it is plausible to be taken by the Soviets. As it is published, it looks to me miscaptioned.
