Im new here, came to this site via a suggestion on theminiaturespage.com. Looks very interesting.

I will soon be painting some 15mm Romanian infantry (and eventually some tanks) for use in wargames. I am trying to find information on the colours of uniforms, helmets, and equipment.

I have access to the Osprey book Germanys Eastern Front Allies, but the few colour plates in the book show very little that is of use.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thats fantastic!! Exactly what I need smile.gif Thanks very much.

The helmet, is it a dark green, or is that a charcoal grey like the Dutch ones? On my monitor its not very clear as to the shade. I have been told there was a mix of colours used depending upon the year.

Any other good pics to share?

the 3rd photo reminds me of what a friend told me : he was serving in the army in the '80 , in the infantry, and they told them to wear their Linemann shovels with the metalic part over the heart....to protect them from bullets

The good generals tunic doesnt show up. Is there somewhere else to see it?

I was in the army back in the '89 and I remember well that the shovels were folded - so there's no resemblance with Linemann.

Some days ago i went to the Army Museum at Invalides (Paris) A new 39/45 wing was oppened two years ago. Plenty new films about the war, uniforms and armaments are exposed. Among the uniforms is a romanian one. The note tells that it was gen Mihail's uniform "chef d'état major" after 23/08/1944. But I was surprised to see that the uniform was white. First I thought that it was to an admiral... One decoration on the left side : Michael the Brave third class model 1916.

So my question is did the Romanian generals had white uniforms (uniforme de gala?) ?

I saw i picture with king Carol2 wearing a white uniform so i suppose that gen Mihail had one like this also.

Hi,

Very interesting photos! I noticed that the figure in the middle is carrying what appears to be Polish wz.32 gas mask bag! Am I correct or did Romanian army was using something that was very similar in design to Polish gas mask bag? I also heard that Germans sold to Romania something around 30.000 captured Polish wz.35 back packs, can anyone confirm this?

The gas masks and bags are similar to the Polish WSR. They were made in Romania by SAROGAZ.

Hi Dragos,

Thank you for info regarding gas mask bag. Do you have any ide when this type of gas mask was introduced in Romanian army and want was it called (Model, year)? Did Romanainas copied this mask from Poles? What is the story of that mask? Was it still in use after WWII?

The gas mask was model 1932. It was indeed copied the Polish model. German gas masks 1935 and 1939 were also used.

they had to wear them "un-folded" and above the heart only when attacking...and also they were told to cry " URAAA!!!" for...greater psihological effect while charging laugh.gif
WWI tactics... laugh.gif in the '80s.

so what ? even now, in some specific situations the WW! tactics could be effective. At least they can see from satelite that the romanians soldiers have a good morale or good lungs :keep:

The masks were produced in Rumiania by SAROGAZ, but under Polish licence. The licence (and 50 000 masks wz.32) were sold in October 1934.
