WorldWar2.ro Forum > Romanian Army > tent question

Posted by: Billy S. January 27, 2013 03:54 am
Hello everyone, this is my first post here. First let me say what a great forum this is. Alright, I was wondering if anyone has any information, especially photos, about what kind of tents the Romanian Army used in the Second World War. I'm not talking about the shelter-half ponchos that were buttoned together to make a small two-man tent but rather the larger tents. Thanks very much to whomever can answer this.

Perhaps they used the same kind of tents they used in the First World War? Here is a page with a lot of photos of the Romanian Army in the First World War and four or five of them show tents.

I can't imagine that with only 23 years having passed from 1918 to the beginning of Romania's involvement in World War II that their tents would have changed too much would they have?

I have no idea what tents were used by Romanian Army during WW2, but here is a photo from 1938 where some tents appear, soldiers are from the Royal Palace Guard Battalion!

Very interesting photo, ionionescu.

Were they still using the Mannlichers, even in the palace guard battalion?

Also, what kind of headgear do they wear?

@Agarici, yes, they used the 6,5 mm Mannlicher M1893 rifle because the ZB-24 rifle was introduced in the Romanian Army only in the first months (March) of 1939, the first units equipped with the new rifles were 6th Guards Regiment „Mihai Viteazul” and Royal Palace Guard Battalion.

The headgear is the M1930 „passe-montagne” introduced only for the Guards units (info provided by Mr.Kepi on 6dorobanti.ro/forum)!

Beautiful photos Ionionescu and Cantacuzino! That's exactly what I was looking for. In the Royal Palace Guard photo it looks like the tents are white then, I guess to keep them cooler in the summer. Thanks guys!
