| I remember seeing near some road just nord of Timisoara in 1990 a large long range P-14 radar with 33meter wide and 22 meter high antenna with 32mx11m parabole for early warning of airplanes at distances up to 600 kilometer! Does someone remember it? How long was it operated? According wikipedia only 24 Tall King A were exported by USSR. How many were in Romanian service? I think their was also some radar site with large radar near or northwest of Bacau airfield. What type did Romania have Tall King A/B or C, soviet types 1RL113 Lena, 44ZH6 Furgon or 5H84A(E) Oborona-14? Jeroen |

| Found a P-14 with a unit at Tecuci on page 20 from Revista FAR number 102! So it is still used today? Jeroen |

| On ROAF site this radar isn`t listed at equipment. So it shouldn`t be operatioanl anymore. P.S. Which one is you, Kevin? |

Sorry, but as I was NOT a member of the Romanian military I cannot tell you anything about the radar system, but, I can ask one of the guys who was there at the time, and who is now a civilian and if he is willing to talk I will add his replies here. Kevin in Deva. |

| The P-14 at Timisoara - Giarmata was replaced in 1998 by a state of the art http://www.roaf.ro/en/dotare/fps117_en.php 3D radar. P-14s are still operational, at least at Bacau and Sarauad near Tasnad, see recent pictures here: http://romanian-spotters.forumer.ro/discutii-generale-f16/vor-postavarul-t1089-25.htm The fact that it's not listed on roaf.ro means nothing - until a few months ago the had L-29 listed as in service, while it was retired in December 2005! |

It definitely is a P-14 antenna with the source (possible GI-5B) but I can not identify its exact subtype. The lay-out of the Giarmata P-14 site could point at a 1RL113 "A"subtype with control cabin with 5 crew at 1 kilometer northeast, for static use only. 44ZH6 "B" subtype ws transportable, the second radar was stored by some operators on 36 Ural375D trucks for deployement and build-up in 50 houres at another wartime off location. "C" subtype 5H84A was even more transportable on 6 trucks/trailers with erecting in 24 houres. Other types to be used at the same locatin with it was heigt radar like PRV-11 and IFF radar/antenna like NRS12, 1L22 Parol (or nato score board  .General data frequency A-band 150-170 MHz, pulse repetition time 5-10 milliseconds, pulse repetition frequency 10-200 Hz, pulse width 10 micrseconds, power 800-900 kW, antenna rotation in 10-25 seconds etcetra See www.radartutorial.eu or www.janes.com or other sites. |

Romania has in service the PRV-13, not the PRV-11. I've found the picture from "Cer Senin" with the radar site at Tecuci you mentioned before, the P-14 can be clearly seen on the right, with the PRV-13 on the left and a P-18 behind it.
