WorldWar2.ro Forum > ARR - Romanian Royal Aeronautics > Error in the list of Rumanian airplanes of ww2? |
Posted by: leonardus April 22, 2004 08:18 am |
I encountered in the list of romanian airplanes from ww2, the year of 1943 at FW 189A plane, captured near Dorohoi, and still is written ex-lufftwaffe.
I think it's an error because Romania change side after 23 august 1944. What's the situation ? Leo Title edited by Dénes |

The ex-Luftwaffe refers to the +, not to the other two aircraft. |

In the original list of ARR airplanes of W.W. 2 - included in my Squadron/Signal book on the Rumanian Air Force (the list on Victor's site is based on), the following is given:
Fw 189A, 1943, 2+ & 1* [7], 1-2+, photo-mapping and cartographic purposes, *ex-Luftwaffe, captured (BTW, the same list is published also on my web site: http://aviatia.cda.ro/Denes_ARR/ARR_ListOfAirplanes.html ) The explanation is the following: there were at least 2 confirmed Fw 189As in ARR, delivered by Germany in 1943 for photo-mapping and cartographic purposes. An additional one (noted with an asterix *) was captured from the Luftwaffe after Aug. 23, 1944. German sources give a total of 7 Fw 189s transferred to ARR (number included in [ ]) - this number probably includes the 5 Fw 189s used to train Hs 129 pilots in the USSR. The confirmed serial numbers of the 2 Fw 189As are 1 and 2, but this could be higher (the photo depiciting the captured Fw 189 does not have any serial number painted on, only the roundels). |
