In an article signed by F.Bichir, today ,in Evz.,it was mentioned something about yugoslav bombardment of Timisoara and Turnu Severin in 1941.As a "mehedintean" i never heard from my elders about such an event.

Yes,I take such informatiom under "beneficiul de inventar",but is there any truth in it ?
dan.

Well, I can't say much about the possible bombing raid (or attack) carried by the Yugoslavian Airforce over the Timişoara or Turnu Severin areas in april 1941, but from this material http://www.elknet.pl/acestory/belgra/belgra1.htm we can read that the Yugoslavs have attacked ground targets in Austria, so it's not impossible to imagine that they could have attacked objectives in our country too. This is not an answer, is just a guess!

The assumption I made is confirmed by this article:
http://www.banaterra.eu/romana/primavara-lui-1941-la-mai-bine-de-doua-decenii-timisoara-retraia-emotiile-de-dupa-primul-razboi
On the other hand they appear more like local responses, not consistent actions like the bombing raid I quoted, conducted over Austria.

Yes it is true, a yugoslav bombardment over Timisoara in 1941. The attack was made using Blenheim bombers ( there is a picture with a Yugo Blenheim wreck shot down over Romania during these attacks).

During the few weeks of that conflict, did the Romanian Army attempt any kind of hostile action against Yugoslavia? My impression was that Gen. Antonescu did not approve something like that.

More about that:

And I've read an article somewhere that eventually Antonescu did want to get the Serbian Banat for Romania. But I can't find it now.

Antonescu mentioned that, but he actually threatened the Hungarians... He'd take the land for himself lest Hungary won't get even more territory! wink.gif

I'm not talking about his warning in 1941. Usually, that's where the Romanian story ends. The following years, it seems Antonescu started to think more and more about gaining territorial compensation for the loss of Northern Transylvania in Transnistria and Serbian Banat. Here's the article: http://eprints.ucl.ac.uk/12954/1/12954.pdf

The attack was done by 4 Blenheims I of 11 Independet Long Range Reccon Squadron. 3 Blenheims were lost: 2 were shot down by pilots of JG 54, and the third (if I am right) by Me 110s of ZG 26 (?)
