http://stirileprotv.ro/stiri/bizar/epava-unui-hidroavion-scufundat-in-timpul-celui-de-al-doilea-razboi-mondial-descoperita-la-constanta.html It will probably remain there for eternity though... |

Because it is in a fresh-water lake, this will be worth recovering. Chances are that the metal parts are not as corroded as if they were in saltwater. I doubt that it is only 90% damaged. That is very repairable. If it was worth salvaging, they would have pulled it out during the war and at least use it for spares if it could not be repaired. There are also some He114 there. Radu |

Taking into consideration the absimal amount of preserved ww2 aircraft parts in Romania anything would be more than valuable i'd say. Maybe we can dream of a "full" wreck to pop up either from one of the lakes or maybe the Black Sea. |

Sea water is really bad news for aluminium. I had the chance to see planes pulled out of the sea and they cannot be restored. There is a wing of a Bf.109G2 pulled out of the sea in the Aviation Museum. It is like Swiss cheese. But this Savoia is in fresh water and that is good news. Radu |

In fact, the plane found in Siutghiol is a He 114 http://stirileprotv.ro/stiri/actualitate/comoara-din-lacul-siutghiol-un-hidroavion-foarte-rar-pe-care-orice-muzeu-din-lume-si-l-ar-dori.html?utm_source=stirileprotv.ro&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletter+StirileProtv.ro+12all07%2F28%2F2012+21%3A42&utm_content=alex_armand_id%40yahoo.com |

Can an all wooden Savoia S.55A survive 70 years into a lake? |
Posted by: Cantacuzino October 29, 2012 12:04 pm
Good point. The pieces found in the lake are all made of metal not wood. Anyone could identify the plane from the picture below link ? Cant Z 501 was also from wood. http://www.telegrafonline.ro/popup_galerie.php?idArt=214766 Maybe a german Dornier 18 ?? http://histaviation.com/Do_18D-0__-_D-2_Drawing.jpg Or a Blohm & Voss BV 138 The sections looks very close http://greenairdesigns.com/ejcgallery/albums/userpics/10002/bv138_3v.jpg |

Wow...those are clearly not Savoia or He 114 parts...very interesting. |
Posted by: Cantacuzino October 29, 2012 01:24 pm
Ofcourse, it's a Blohm &Voss BV 138 http://data4.primeportal.net/hangar/robert_arnehov/bv_138/images/bv_138_02_of_11.jpg http://data4.primeportal.net/hangar/robert_arnehov/bv_138/images/bv_138_09_of_11.jpg |

Indeed, amazing find ! And what's more amazing is that the only other surviving Bv138 is the one that you posted in the pictures which is at the Danish Technical Museum |

------------------------------------------------ "25.05.1944 - At 20 hours a German BV-138 that took off from Mamaia lake for testing night flight instruments crashed during landing, the pilot and the technician drawning" Possibly not this one, there are documents still to be studied. |

Many thanks mr. Antoniu for sharing, indeed it seems by the damage that the hydroplane "capsized", the entire upper part of the fusselage seems broken. |

Nu stiu in ce pozitie a fost gasit, este posibil ca aripile sa fi fost taiate pentru a degaja zona, fuzelajul ramas si rasturnat pe o parte nu mai deranja activitatea pe lac. ---------------------------------------------- It is possible the wings were cut off to clear the area, and the fuselage turned over on side to clear the bottom of the lake. |
