WorldWar2.ro Forum > ARR - Romanian Royal Aeronautics > Do 215 export to Romania

Posted by: Grinchen May 23, 2012 05:47 pm
Hello,

Romania, together with a number of other countries (Sweden, Yugoslavia and Holland) placed orders for the Do 215 aircraft.

It appears the order was placed after the outbreak of WWII and was cancelled in 2nd quarter of 1940. Are any more details known related to this deal including cost, delivery schedules as well as which Romanian unit/s were to be equipped with the type.

How was the gap created by the cancellation handled by ARR?

Thanks!
/Mike

biggrin.gif I'm looking forward to a book with colour profiles and the operational history on ARR UAV's on the Eastern front!

But surely something must have survived in Romanian archives related to the failed Do 215 deal!?

Hello Mikael,

In a Luftwaffe (DLM) document dated Nov. 1942 it is stated that Rumania wanted 22 long-range recce Do 215s or He 111H-6s.

That's all I found in documents. Nothing in ARR documents that I saw.

You probably already knew that Do 17Ms were used for recce missions.

Hello Dénes,

Yes I'm aware of the document you refer to.

My main interest are the 30 Do 215 ordered by Romania in 1939/1940 that was not delivered, much like the Swedish and Dutch machines. Are there any details related to that contract known, such as date, cost etc as well as which ARR unit would have been equipped with the type if it was delivered.

Best regards
/Mike
