It was bestowed to Maurice Couve de Murville, France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1958 and 1968. The document is dated 14.5.1968.

It's the first time I've heard of an royal order being bestowed after the abdication of the King.

Does anybody heard of somenthing like this?

Who signed the awarding document????

I don't know. The only answer I've got from the seeler is that is indeed 1968.

It is very strange, the order is OK, it seems to be a piece made by Resh.
I have heard about "For merit"Orders awarded by C2 in exile but that is an Hohenzoller-House Order! In the romanian order system it was his invention and it was avarded "proprio motu"!
The Star of Romania Order is(was!) a national Order, I think that even King Michael had no right to award this Order from his exile.... !
Who knows! It would be interesting to see the awarding document.
I saw also pictures with King Mihai's daughter wearing the Grand Gross of the Carol Order!

Without seeing it, I advance the hypothesis that the certificate is not for this particular insignia, but for a 1968 Order of the Star of Romania third class.

You may be right, but even in this condition it would be interesting to know if the Romanian Royal House has awarded Orders from the exile.

On http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Margarita_of_Romania there is the photo below of Princess Margareta wearing what appears to be the Grand Cross insignia of the Order of Carol I. Since she was born in 1949 it appears that King Mihai has indeed awarded orders after his abdication.

I have found something,in the book from NT Ionescu-Decoratiunile Romane from 1915 about the Carol1 Order:

In this case it is "legal"that Princess Margareta wears the Grand Cross insignia of the Carol Order!

I have read somewhere on the net (I admit, not the most reliable source) that sometime in the 1960s the Order of Carol I has been recognised as a dynastic order of the Romanian Hohenzollern House together with the Order of Michael the Brave. King Mihai was the Grand Master of both orders and could award both of them. I do not know whether he has made any awards of the Order of Michael the Brave after 1947 (hence the 1960s recognition was for a dormant order), but the award to Princess Margareta indicates that at least the Order of Carol I was active after Mihai's abdication.

I read something similar at:

Mystery solved. biggrin.gif
The document appeared on eBay again. As you can see it's for the Order of the Star of the Socialist Republic.
