Maybe something British, by the looks of the headgear the officer is wearing.

It's Romanian too: the medal of Cultural Merit (Meritul cultural), 2nd class.

What is the Cultural Medal for?

Posted by: dragos03 June 13, 2004 12:44 pm
Well, i guess it's for culture. I think the ribbon lost it's original colours who were blue and black meaning it was awarded for merits in sports or physical education.

Posted by: CCJ June 13, 2004 02:11 pm
Well, I see. Culture is a broad term... I would have thought sports would have a distinctive medal.

There were 8 ribbon types for this medal, each for a different domain. Yours may also be for "social works".

There were actually 9 ribbon types for the Order for Cultural Merit. The section on Straja Ţării introduced in 1937 is usually overlooked.
