I read the book. I find it a successful book, practically written by Daniel Focsa and the hero of the story, Lt. Commander Dan Valentin Vizanty in coauthored . The book underlines some interesting and less known aspects of Vizanty's life related to his role in events surrounding the date of 23.08.1944 and his possible actions and links with allied intelligence services to counter communism in building our country. In this last aspect the author Daniel Focsa offers to the future interested researchers , the first clues based on which, perhaps future research will offer more interesting details .

Unfortunately, the publisher accepts only bank transfer (no Credit Card, no PayPal). So, for foreigners is really tricky to order the book.

I don't think for foreigners is tricky to order the book. The publishing house sell a lot of books in foreign coutries. It is a very serious and prestigious publishing house.

Denes is right...in 2010 it's very unusual to accept only bank transfers, i couldn't be bothered to have to go to the bank to be able to order a book online. ( The fee for such a transaction are also very high compared to paypal/visa )

Well, who really wants a book, go to the bank or to the bookshop...

This is exactly the thinking entrenched in 'old ways' of doing business: let the customer who needs something change his ways, because we will stick to our own no matter what. This inflexible business approach usually causes the earlier or later demise of the venture, in today's capitalist environment.

Gen. Dénes

P.S. I will have to find a contact in Rumania, who can order the book for me then send it abroad.

Bought this book today and read more than half of it in a couple of hours. I do recommend getting it!

Its nice to have a "glimpse" of what many people from our country think it was reserved to the americans, british and germans, "dog fights" and aerial war were a part of our war effort and we had our heroes, both men and machines. Unknown heroes, but now, slowly, brought into the spotlight. Well done!

I was also happy to see a "break away" from the traditional "Antonescu lead a nazi regime, while the Allies liberated... " type of considerations assigned to that period of ww2. Well done!

In 1961 Vizanty was condemned to 5 years in prison, but I think he was released after one year and a half.

For Mr. Vranceanu:
As a white collar working class member, who is not a professional historian, I either buy engineering books, either books comprehending a whole field or a whole subject, and not related to individuals.
Some examples: "The First World War" (by Hew Stracham), "Battle at Sea - 3000 years of naval warfare" (by R.G. Grant), "Imperial China - (years) 900-1800" (by F.W. Mote), "Illustrated Encyclopedia of Military Aircraft - 1914 to the present" (by Enzo Angelucci), "Romania Regelui Carol I" (text: Matei Cazacu, selection of photos: Ovidiu Morar)

5 rewiews to "Dan Vizanty.

Istoricul bucureştean a publicat volumul Escadrila Albă (…).

http://www.ziarultimpul.ro/cultura/restituiri/2010/11/vizanty-eroul-aerului/

For them who tell I didn't use military archives for this book (evan I haven't to justify my work in front of anybody):

- I used personal / family archives including a lot of military documents;
- I used military documents find to CNSAS not to Military Archives in Pitesti;
- I also used military documents already published in another books or articles;

Here is the answer to me, from the military Archives in Pitesti, who tell that the personal officer file of Dan Vizanty don't exist anymore in their archives:

http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/2026/img3225dr.jpg

Posted by: Dénes May 12, 2013 06:28 am
I also looked for his personal file in the Pitesti Military Archives about 10 years ago, but could not find it.

Since Vizanty defected to France, his personal file may have been transferred to the Securitate.

Gen. Dénes

Posted by: Vranceanu May 12, 2013 10:13 am
Yes, because I found some pages of his personal file (the years 41 - 44), in his Securitate file, to CNSAS.

Posted by: Dénes May 12, 2013 01:25 pm
Mr. Focsa, since I've not read your book, how did you handle Vizanty's claim that he shot down 12 four-engine US bombers?

Gen. Dénes

Posted by: Vranceanu May 12, 2013 02:33 pm
If you did not read the book, you may do it.

Sincerely, I don't remember now exactly each victory of him, but what I found is 16 victories (43 or 46 in ARR system, this is not sure) and he pretended to shut down 4 german planes in Tcechoslovakia. But I didn't find that all 12 (until august 1944) were four-engines US bombers.

Interesting article, offering a somewhat different perspective. Only ond detail: I think the Polish example, referred to the Soviets, might not be the best. As far as I know, following the Soviet intervention/invasion in 17 September 1939, the Polish General Staff gave order to the troops to fall back from the East. Only in 2-3 instances did the Poles engage the Soviet aggressors (quite sucessful from the tactical point of view, but with no effect on the final outcome).
