Hello to everybody,

A new book about the American bombardments over Ploesti appeared at the Casemate editions. "Fortress Ploesti The Campaign to Distroy Hitler's Oil" by Jay A Stout. The price (i bought it from France) is 40 euros...

Some new informations about the Tidal Wave and Halpro bombing missions. Unfortunatly, lack of informations about the planes and their crews (for the Tidal Wave i prefer the much more detailed "Bine ati venit in infern" by I Grigorescu -- is this book an accurate source)

For the 1944 campaign against Ploiesti.... didn't get it so far with the reading. An interesting statistics of 1944 Ploesti campaign (date/bomb wing/effective sorties/target/tonnage/smoke screen/aircraft lost).

Best regards,
BM

I also have Jay Stout's recently published book and it makes an interesting read. It's a welcome addition to the sizeable library dedicated to the USAAF bombing raids against Ploiesti and the surrounding area. He tried hard to include testimony from the Rumanian part as well (not much from the German side, though), which is not common for US authors, therefore it's commendable.

I do not think you can anymore.
The book was published in 1995 or 96 by Nemira, in the Commando collection.

I bought it, recently, from Bucharest in a SH book store from Universitate passage.
It was very cheap and in good condition.

Today was a great day, I went to the 25th mondial kit exposition in Paris and i found an answer for the name of the planes and crews who participated at Tidal Wave. I didn't noticed that last summer the nr25 of the "Batailles aeriennes" magazine had detailed this subject. The article is signed by C Craciunoiu.

Is there in the list "Lynn Barl II" ? I read about it in scan from a romanian book but i did not find it on the list of planes listed here: http://home.comcast.net/~skyscorpions/p_roster.htm .

Lynn Barl II (No. 42-40172) from 506th Bomber Squadron was left for repairs at Gibraltar. It returned to service and eventually crashed near Lyon in August 1944.

Thanks Victor, but do you have any ideea who "gunned" Marin Ghica on 1 aug.'43 ?

Does anybody know? Please, is important for me!

Is quite difficult to find which B24 hit cpt Ghica's plane. He attacked a box of 8 planes of the 376 BG "Liberandos" (cf Batallies Aeriennes no 25 by Craciunoiu).

I have to check in Grigorescu's book but i do not think that i will find something more.

yours,
BM
