Hi List,

Im searching for shipwrecks who were lost in the black sea, between Mamaia and Mangalia. The intension is to make finaly a documentary from these wrecks, with information about the name of the ship, reason sinking, fate of the crew, underwater filming, etc etc.

If someone can help me with Photo's, positions, names and all the rest, should be very great.

Also information about Aircrafts lost in this area are welcome.

Many thanks....

I know 3 visible shipwrecks, all of them are carge ships sunk before 1989.

The first is in the Agigea Bay, North of the town of Agigea. The others are off the resorts of Costinesti and Vama Veche.

The most interesting should be the Soviet destroyer Moskva sunk on 26 June 1941. I beileve it's remains lay over 20 km from Agigea Cape. I don't know the exact position though.

On 28 December 1941, the Lt. Stoicescu tug was sent on an antisubmarine listening mission near Cape Tuzla. The sea was very heavy and the tug disappeared during the storm.

Many thanks Victor and Dragos03 for the info,

Is there a known photo from the Lt. Stoicescu?

I saw on the Forum many lists from ships lost in the blacksea, is there also information what give coordinates were they are lost?

Or is there a possibilitie to get maps from the blacksea with positions of wrecks and obstackels, like we have in Holland from the North sea?

Again thanks for the info, and hope that more info will come.

Some coordinates are published, but they aren't for ships close to Constanta. Other ships sunk in teh vicinity of Constanta were lost on 29 April 1943 by accident. The German cargo ship Arkadia returned from Sevastopol escorted by 4 R-boots. Off Cape Midia, the ship entered the S-57 mine barrage, hit one and sunk. Later that day, Rb 36, which was planting buoys at the accident site also hit a mine and sunk.

That's about it between Constanta and Mangalia.

Here is a sketch of the battle on 26 June 1941, with the position of the Moskva marked by a big black disk. The 380 mm battery South of Constanta is the Tirpitz.

Note that "Eforie" is presently "Eforie Nord" and Carmen Sylva is "Eforie Sud".
