| minelayer PRUTH
hello, I has here a message to be present some Romanian minelayer PRUTH at 14.09.1943 in Mariupol by its crew was sunk. I look for a confirmation for this message, the reason of the self sinking and the technical data of this ship. thanks Theo Hallo, ich habe hier eine Meldung vorliegen das ein rumänischer Minenleger PRUTH am 14.09.1943 in Mariupol von seiner Besatzung selber versenkt wurde. Ich suche eine Bestätigung für diese Meldung, den Grund der Selbstversenkung und die technischen Daten dieses Schiffes. Danke Theo |

| Never heard of the incident or of the ship. Maybe it was an armed tug, not a mine-layer. |

| As far I could suggested PRUTUL is the Romanian name of PRUTH.
The Romanian Navy in WW I posessed a paddle steamer (vaporasul) PRUTUL reported built in Linz 1893 (not in Meyer yard list) 31t 23x3x0.65m 50hp=8kts. 1x37mm Revolver gun 1x11mm MG. Served on Pruth river. Fateafter WW I ? Another PRUTUL was built 1886 in England 24x3.1x1.05m paddle passenger steamer 60hp, priot to 1940 renamed DAENI. Could be the same ship ????? |

| Yes, accordingly to Low Danube Paddle Steamers by C.Craciunoiu
PRUTUL was the first ship of Marina Granicereasca built 1886 , after WW I bought by T.Lichiardopol and Gheorge Celeti, Braila , 1848 nationalized and given to SH = Hydraulic Service, scrapped in early 1960s. In the book is mentioned as built in Galati. Note that the same author published in 1992 in WARSHIP (Conway) an article on Roumanian Minelaying Operations in WW II. He only listed the following auxiliary minelayers: REGELE CAROL I DUROSTOR replaced by AURORA DACIA ROMANIA |

| I have till now found only one PRUTH
Yard data: Russian twin screw tug 75grt 130ihp built Danubius, Budapest in 1906 Russian Register 1914: Registerd Renni #85 as a tug iron hull 48grt/13nrt 84,30ftx15ftx6,62ft 2 vertical compound 2 screw 150ihp=7,5kts passengers II-2 III class -25 owner Russkoe Dunayskoe Parokodstvo Reported sunk 1919 on Dnestr river. |

| All the data I have is about hte PRUTUL used as a police boat on the Danube. DAENI is his rebuil hull that survived till 1960-1970 in Giurgiu harbour for the Serviciul Hidraulic
There was a Russian first WW ship in the Black Sea, lost in the end of the war, but that was PRUTH and no PRUTUL. |

refloated (?) commissioned as Austrian BELENE 29 Nov 1916 at Corabia. Greger gives captured 16.12.16 ex Russian Other ships seized by Austrian Danube flotille were: VOLTURUL taken 26 Nov 1917 at Turnu Severin NIKOLAUS commisioned 26 Dec 1916 at Corabia and renamed LELEK Greger gives captured 16.10.16 ex Russian |

| To make the confusions even higher, Romanian Navy was given a ship of this type and name found in Sevastopol Shipyard Marti when it was conquered ! No other details for the moment, but I will have then soon. |
