It is not hat no one wants to help. It is just that the detailed maps you are looking for do not exist in any published work on Odessa in Romania.

Regarding bodies of Romanian soldiers found near Odessa, you might want to bypass the embassy and address directly the National Bureau for the Cult of the Heroes at once@once.ro

I own an original German Luftwaffe map from 1943, scale 1:300 000, of Odessa and the surrounding area, but this particular locality is not identified on it.

Gen. Dénes

P.S. Dragos, on your Rumanian edited map are the airfields around Odessa identified?

Posted by: Odessa February 26, 2009 10:09 pm
I shall be very grateful if you share photos of your card 1943! Thanks

I don't think so.
In other Rumanian documents an airfield is marked with a rectangle with diagonally crossing lines, linking the corners.

If you found the remains of a dead romanian soldier from ww2, you can adress to Romanian National Ofice for Heroes. Here is their adress http://once.ro/

Maybe they can help to a proper burial of the romanian hero you found.

I just talked with the person who work at ONCE and he advised that you must go to Romanian Ambassy Consulate (Consulatul Roman) from Odessa with details of the romanian soldier, including the precise location of the place where you find it. At the Consulate it is a woman who will take all the informations and she will sent to ONCE in Romania.
Another thing told by the person from ONCE , this year (in summer) will be open a romanian WWII cemetery close to Odessa (about 60Km from Odessa to Tiraspol).

Dragos sorry , what is the scara of your map in killometers? rolleyes.gif

Posted by: dragos October 16, 2009 04:11 pm
The scale is 1:100,000, thus 1 cm on map represents 1 km.

Posted by: Odessa October 18, 2009 06:50 am
rolleyes.gif Hello in square 1cm in original map? http://www.radikal.ru

Posted by: dragos October 18, 2009 09:22 am
I don't have the map on paper, only in digital format. What you can do is print it or use a image editor with a measurement tool, then find the real distance between two localities from another map and calculate this map's scale by applying proportion.
