I suspect the article's author of bad grammar/unclear writting style. I think the reference (“ce trecuse la germani”) is made to prince A. Sturdza himself and not to his son in law. About colonel Alexandru Sturdza, in Romanian: http://paginiromanesti.com/articol.asp?codart=2-MA02-10101 |

One should find other sources for that, except extreme-right nostalgic sites... |

Hello, sorry for my absence in the past few months. They are talking about Lt. Ilie Sturdza, son of Mihail Sturdza. Gen. Avramescu's younger daughter was married to Ilie Sturdza. I won't go into the reasons for the marriage, but they were entirely non-political. At the time of the marriage (1941), Gen. Avramescu made it clear to Ilie Sturdza that he did not want to hear any political discussions from him, even at the dinner table. As far as I know, Ilie conformed to this wish. Most post-war Iron Guard memoirs mentioned are non-credible sources at least with respect to this particular topic. Some allegations have been privately retracted by their authors. It is true that Ilie Sturdza fled to the Germans through the 4th Army lines in the winter of 1945. He knew he would have been a dead man soon if he had stayed, given his past and his father's past. But he left his wife and infant son behind. To me that's a sign that he was primarily looking to save his own hide (skin), not some conspiracy. As far as Gen. Avramescu's exact reason and circumstances of his death, it remains a lifelong research project for me. However, I'm afraid only some still undiscovered Soviet archival documents or OSS transcripts may provide an answer (if these documents still exist). |
