And B-24 Boiler Maker II prior A.R.R. cammo, probably on Zilistea airfield. We can see also spare parts from other TW B-24 were used. The right fin ( green cammo) is from Brewery Wagon ( nr.36). And the early type tail gun turret of Boiler Maker II was changed with a later model.

On the back of the original picture Barladeanu wrote that it is his second victory a B-24 crashed near Contesti -Butimanu on 1 august '43.

Hello Alex,

I couldn't resist commenting on the posts regarding Hail Columbia. This a/c was a 98th BG original that was flown by John Kane when the 98th deployed overseas in July 1942. Kane flew this plane as his personal a/c until he ceased flying operationally and it was transferred to the 343rd SQ and became Grumpy. For Tidal Wave Kane requisitioned the plane back and had the eagle painted on the left side just for that mission.

Somehow, this plane has been associated with the name, 'Little Chief/Big Dog' which was the a/c of the Herman Lewis crew. Lewis and crew went MIA on Jan 19, 1943 in another plane. There are still some questions as to what s/n 'Little Chief" carried but it may have been 42-40106.

I have interviewed Kane's two surviving crewmembers as well as a 98th line chief who helped scrap the plane on Cyprus and all agree that there was NO artwork carried on the right side of Hail Columbia. There was a question as to the disposition of the plane after 1 Aug. In addition to having several hundred holes in the skin and a bent right wing spar, it was badly damaged in the crash landing and was scrapped on Cyprus by ground elements of the 98th.

Fantastic work on Bardaleanu and and fantastic photos with his signature, what I am very pleased to see is the front voiew of the BOIL MAKER II which I never saw before, all your stuff is priceless mate !!! I still thinks is the BOIL MAKER II and not HONKEY THONK GAL

Below an old Ploesti map ( 1938).
I am waiting someone from Ploesti to recognise better the Rudului Street and the prison on this map

Alex, two B-24 with romanian markings were seen in the pictures. One B-24 with big "Michael cross" on the fuselage and dark green color ( ARR paint over pink) and wide yellow axis strip, and with full front nose glasses believed to be Boiler Maker II.

And the second B-24 with small "Michael cross" and narrow yellow axis band, light green cammo ( original US) and overpainted US marks with dark green ( ARR green) and front nose with aluminium sheet cover instead of original B-24 glasses.
Because the only green B-24 in relative good shape ( minus front nose glasses)was Honky Tonk Gall a belive the second B-24 could be him.

Str. Rudului is the Str. Barbu Delavrancea on the map you posted or at least its southwestern end.

Thanks Victor, I was thinking the same but i wanted to double check.
Do you have a new map with Ploesti ? ( a satellite map mayby)
