Tidal Wave Footage Photos, 15th AAF and Luftwaffe, 'Black Sunday', 1 August 1943

I am not sure if Walt ever told you that he was catalitic in
bringing back home his old friend Hugh Ropper along with
his crew from Brod (Macedonia) where they were temp.
buried. He along with the US Grave Commission have
worked on this in 1946 . I am certain you know that a
few years ago USAF (Maxwell AFB Air Command & Staff
College) elected Walt for the "Gather of Eagles "....He's
also one of the few 93rd vets of Ploesti still alive.

Going shortly through the link of the Ploesti updated DVD
which shows a short footage...well if that's the update, then
that's no update...is just a copy of a B & W DVD available from Herb the
historian of 98 BG shot by CCU1 in Libya in 1943 at Berka and
Benina,mainly at 98 th BG....if there are other footages in there other
than those I saw on his link,OK....I am all ears and anexious to
buy a copy....sofar I am really not sure if thats really an update
but perhaps a promotional sales effort of someone fully inclined
towards profits.

PS; the second part of the link is not working and his website has
no contact address whatsoever. As into the misfiled colo. target
folder, I am curious to see whats he talking about !

My Great uncle Vance Taylor lost his life durring this mission and this site has been very helpfull to some of my research on his death. He was a gunner on 42-40613 Pudgy and here is a photo of him.

There is a second Grave for Vance Taylor however just a small box of some of his personal effects were burried here in Burlington. You wouldnt have any more info or know of anything from this or some photos? Was wondering if you could get a photo of his grave there? Much appreciated.

Thanks for posting these photos,which I saw them
for first time. For some reason the US vets memorial
site doesn't have a grave photo at Burlington and
he isn't registered.

None of the US airmen fallen in '43 and '44 are
buried in Rumania , they were reinterred by the
US Army grave comission between 1946 through
1949 to either Ardennes Belgium ,Lorraine France
and the US according to the decision of the family
members. In most of the cases the post crash
fire was so intense that very little was left for burial
purposes except personal effects.

I have some rare photos of various Milt crew members
and yet I don't have a complete crew photo.Can you help?

Is there any chance for you to email me anything you may
have available. I think Teltser crew was a fresh crew sent
over from UK or US as no crew photos are available on any
of the 93BG books I have available.

Could this be the Pudgy that was there plane? Some seem to think so but however I found it listed under another SSN Since the full aircraft isnt visable its hard to tell.

a noseart on Pudgy.

My grandfather was a B-24 co-pilot involved with the Ploesti raids. His plane was shot down in a corn field near Ploesti and I think one iof the unidentified planes was his. It was called the Devils Duchess. He spent the rest of the war in a Romanian prison. I have not even seen his name mentioned on here though he helped write the book Fortress Ploesti: Destroying Hitlers Oil Supply. His name is Robert Kenneth Barmore. In the book it tells the story of him being shot down and helping get his injured crewmen out of the plane while its plummeting to the ground. He being the last one to bail out was actually the first one to hit the ground.

PS: All Allied POW's were airlifted till Aug 31,44 none of them spend rest
of the war in Rumania

I am assuming with "the rest of the war", you mean until August 23, 1944.

Maybe he has not fought after release.

This seller on Ebay posted a photo stating Ploesti
under RAF attacks on March 2 (on the back
March 3,1941)......I wonder what this photo is
reffering to as there were no RAF attacks till
April 1944 ,possibly that's a Yugoslavian refinary.
