Remarkable pictures, thank you Alex.
My fascination with Tidalwave started when one night in the early nineties I flew across the Atlantic to Europe and read the entire book "Low Level Mission" depicting the whole Tidal Wave saga from all perspectives, American, Romanian and German. The book made a huge impression on me, I read it during the entire flight and at Amsterdam waiting for a transfer. Since then I bought one of the best aviation prints. Low Level Mission by Robert Taylor and depicting "Suzy Q" coming in low, just about 100 feet off the ground the picture is signed by Phillip Ardrey, William Cameron, Keith Compton, Ramsey Potts and Hub Zemke. That picture hangs right above my desk at the office. This year I intend to build the "Hail Columbia" or "Suzy Q" from that mission in 1 48 so as you see my interest in the mission continues. Right now I am builidging Stoyan Stoyanov's 109G2 that he flew on this day and downed two Liberators over Bulgaria. ( I am still not sure if he flew green 1 or green 28....any ideas? ) So as you see....the saga continues. Artur Attached Image |

On TW day Scully flew a Bf-109G from 53sq but his guns were jammed and flown only as observer of B-24 Ploesti attack. The picture with him in the IAR cockpit was taken much before TW. Dan. |

fascinating picture!. It looks like they painted over the yellow ID rings around the stars. I wonder if that was the case on all the planes or just this one. If the picture was black and white we would never know that as yellow often came out dark on the camera film used during those days. Artur

The Luftwaffe airman could be Hptm. Dipl. Eng. Hans-Werner Lerche, a veteran German test pilot with previous experience in flying captured B-24s, sent specially to Rumania to fly the repaired Boiler Maker II from the original landing spot in the middle of the cornfield to Zilistea airfield, which had a concrete landing strip. The 23-min. flight took place on Dec. 3, 1943. It was from Zilistea, where the Rumanian test pilot, Dumitru 'Dudu' Frim, later on took off from and flew the bomber to Brasov airfield. Gen. Dénes |

Here are 3TW POW pilots enjoying their term in Roumania ...visibly they are in good shape and enjoy reading a Roumanian magazine.....the US POW were treated substantially better in Roumania than any other STALAGS in Europe...thanks to Kind Mihai and Roumanian friendly attitude towards US...which US Governments after WWII seems to have forgotten ! My US friends when you read this message, get me some iD on these airmen . One is Lt 1st class, the other on the left is having fun wearing an ARR pilot badge.....and it seems to be after 23 Aug 1944 days prior Operation Reunion
