and to match the technical quality of that "sale", i could offer advanced AAA of my own making, branded "Gummipuska".
the practical ceiling is a bit limited, but the operator could reposition himself to the roof of his own house, for a range increase.

Anyway, regardless of the type bought, the aircraft will soldier on, much over the 10 years prognosed. It is naive to think otherwise. laugh.gif

MiG-21 could be modernised again. Will this replace the aquisition of new fighters, or could made in order to suplement the reduced numbers planned to be buyed?

No, the MiGs will not be modernized again. That's what the stupid journalist understood.

The quote of the RoAF commander states clearly that it's about prolonging the resource of the MiGs - meaning they will go trough a check at Aerostar, with some structural parts and subsystems (hydraulics, electrical) replaced or repaired to resist for a few more years. Overhaul (reparatie capitala) in one word, not upgrade or modernization.

All this has to be done because of the repeated postponement of the fighter aquisition. The Lancers were originally intended to be retired from service in 2010-11, this way they will serve until 2013, when the "new" fighter will be fully operational.

Nope! We`re just getting warm... laugh.gif
It`s not our fault, it`s the guys which in 6 or more years could not get a decision...
After we get our 2nd hand overpaid squadron of new fighters, we`ll close this and start a new one... How could that dirty thing happen.. dry.gif

If my memory is corect (after so many years)I didn't vote.
1.Because the fighter is gonna be chosen politicaly and with bribe.
2.Because the conclusions taken here are totaly irelevant.

But if people are so bored......

Saab are not "generously" offering deals to anyone looking for a jet fighter, they are "desperately" offering deals to anyone looking for a jet fighter. Good things sell themselves, they do not need to be backed by "generous" offers. wink.gif

Talking about back-up, please could you back-up your statements?

Otherwise is just pub-talk... rolleyes.gif

I think they will put them in a better shape before re-selling. 63 2k-9 from EAU and another squadron from Qattar, can be the option for a group of NATO states who want to retire MiG-21, and all of them to be in one neighborhood. Something like Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, (Albania? lol...). And some of them to be selled to Greece.
If they will provide (sell) the Black-Sha-bla-bla/Storm Shadow/Scalp missile and Mica, will be nice. Of course, if all those states can buy them. And then, Aerostar to be the repair station... And so, if Mirage F1 was not the NATO fighter, now Mirage 2000 can be the fighter of his Southern Flank.

Or, another good market for those Mirages can be the Mercosur states. If they can buy them. Not Brasil, of course. They can buy whatever they want from some time ago...

At least, they don't have that air intake (?) like F-16 had.

I've seen on the forum many options, about which will be the best choice for Romanian Air Force. All the possibilities looks very fine, all are marveilous planes. We can stay and compare technical figures for a very long time.
But we must look at one practical thing, that was not discuss enough. The only plane tested in battle, in real battle conditions is F-16. Grippen, Mirage, Eurofighter looks very nice, but they're never passed over real battle conditions. They hadn't this opportunity, yet. Maybe they lokk greaty in tests, but real battle is aomething else.
And, I prefer to buy (IMO) a second hand plane who passed succesfully the real battle tests, if I'll have the opportunity to participate later at F-35 program, in the future.
Every choise we'll make, it'll cost a lot of money. I prefer to spent this money on something verified in battle, and later, when maybe I'll have more money, to be part on the programe of future, to assure myself for decades.

Recently UK MoD chiefs thinks to cut in half theyr option for F-35. Even them don't have enough money to buy an enough nomber of this plane. For Romania, to buy F-35 it is only a fantasy. Not for the future ten years, maybe will be a dream even for the next 15 to 20 years from now on. Our only way to have F-35 will be to buy them at, of course, second hand...

Last year, in simulated fights, Rafale was the winner against Typhoon, even if Typhoon pilots say Rafale is underpowered and not so agile like theyr planes. At least, UAE and Qattary Rafales will have more powerful engines, and even better electronics. Finally, Rafale it is battle tested... in air to ground mode, in Afghanistan. Maybe we will buy 24 Typhoon, or Rafale from first batch, as second hand planes, and next 24 ones to be new 100 %.

Also, Hornets are battle tested in two wars against Iraq, and missions over ex-Yugoslavia. And maybe they were used in Afghanistan, against ground targets. At least for some testings. And, if i remember well, Hornet destroyed at least one MiG in Irak one. For two engines fans, Hornet is nice enough. smile.gif

Maybe, if we will have enough money far enough in time, we can buy F-16 Block 60 at second hand, and F-16 fans will be happy. smile.gif

And in the future, Romania will have grounded one squadron of MiG-29, 3 of MiG-23, some of IAR-93, L-29, L-39, MiG-21 and Lancer, and... four squadrons of F-16s/Typhoons/Rafales/Hornets/Mirage 2k9 and not enough money to buy F-35 second hand. smile.gif

I was bored... smile.gif

Later edit: i forgot to say about Tornado... Who will buy english, german, and italyan Tornados when they will be put into market? Let's bring some new states in NATO! smile.gif
