My uncle was French From Moselle, he was what we called in french a "malgre-nous", been enrolled by force in the Werhmacht in may 1943 and sent to the east front.
In august 1944 he was in Rumania part of the Grenadier Regiment 848 (282 Inf Division, 6th Army). We received his last letter the 4th of August 1944. Following the Deutsches Rottes Kreutz, he was probably killed during the heavy Soviet offensive named "Iasi-Chisinau" between the 21 and 31th August 1944. I know this forum is dedicated to the Romanian Army but i've made a lot's of research (French Governement, Wast, Volskbund, Deutsches Rottes Kreutz,…) and maybe someone can help me with some informations… My best wishes would be to find his grave…somewhere in Rumania even if i suspect that he has most probably not been buried decently…. Many thanks for your help. |
