When and where was the first encounter with American troops on the Western Front? I suppose the war was already over by then or am I wrong?

Thanks

I belive it was in Austria after the war.
Now I want to write a story that Me and Victor heard from Dragos Stinghe a 109 vet.
While he was in Wiena (Mai Juin 45),he was visiting the city, when he saw a few American soldiers throwing from a car pacs of cigarets ,food and other things. The Austrians were figting for the goods and the GI's were laughing and filming the scene.
Not far away was a Russian soldier,a rezervist.Over 40 ,unshaved badly dressed, with a long rifle...
Suddenly he took from his pochet some tabaco, and made from a pice of a newspaper a cigarett.Imediatly he was surrounded by people who asked him for some tabaco..
He began insulting them in Russian but between the words he gave them little by little all his tabaco...
After that he took the cigarett out of his mouth and gave half of it to a pearson near him...

Romanian troops did not enter in contact with American or any other allied troops (except for Soviet or Soviet sponsored, like the Cezch Corps). But after the war ended, some made trips to Germany, mainly to visit the cities or what remained of them. That is where they made contact with other allied troops.

Slt. av. Aurelian Barbici returned to Rumania from a US-ran POW Camp. In March 1945, he defected to the German side together with his wingman.

Very interesting!
Is that the Barbici that shoot down Boris Cap batut?
What happened to him after he was back in Rom.?
The two Barbici brothers were from Oradea and were sons on a priest.
ALL vets say about them that they were IDIOTS.
And I see I'ts true;to defect to the German side in March 45 :loool: :rollroll: :loool: :rollroll:

Romanian troops never encountered the Americans on the western front.

But they did encountered quite a few Americans when they shot down the planes attacking Ploiesti laugh.gif I'm sure that the mighty USAF never expected such losses when they first attacked the Romanian oilfields and refinerys.
