It's not a W.W. 1-era airplane, but a French Farman 'Goliath' from the 1920s.
Are any markings/serial numbers visible? Gen. Dénes P.S. To the Admin. This topic should be renamed and moved to the ARR section. This post has been edited by Dénes on May 20, 2006 10:27 pm |

Thank you for your answer.
Sadly there aren't any markings visible on the picture. Was this airplane type used by romanian airforce or civil aviation? |

I've searched on the internet for other photos of Farman "Goliath" and saw that the front part of the plane is different. The Farman Goliath series have a straight front part different fron the "nose" of the airplane in my picture.
Could it be a prototype or a more rare modell? |

There were several models of the 'Goliath, some featuring different nose shapes.
Did you search this forum? There is a separate thread discussing this aircraft type: http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?sh...2044&hl=goliath Gen. Dénes |

Solved the problem today. Looking in my collection of "Modelism" magazine, I've found an article with photos for the plane I was asking about.
It's not a Farman Goliath but a french LeO-20 which was used in small numbers by ARR. |

Indeed, the two types look very similar.
I don't have my references handy, but I still believe it's a Goliath, not a LeO-20. Here is a small photo of the LeO-20 in Rumanian colours, the only one I could find on the 'net: [Source: 'The Quest of the Roaring Twenties', on home.myaccess.com.au/~marcel/vie-papa/Roumanie]. Check out the shape of the rudder's top and bottom, just visible on your photo. On the LeO both are curved, but on the Farman they are straight. More details later on. Gen. Wouldn't this thread fit better into the non-WW2 section The Interwar Period (1920-1940)?

You are right. My mistake that I didn't noticed the rudder's shape. |
