Not even the "plotters" wanted to stop the war with SU! Much less Stalin, not when he was winning and he would have wanted the entire Germany for himself! Well, not literally, but you DO understand that Hitler's death wouldn't have changed too much - perhaps accelerated the colapse of the Western front, but riight here, in Romania, do you think somebody would have stopped the victorious offensives to... what?! WHY would have Stalin stopped at the FNB? Please answer me that first! Then, we'll talk "what if's", all right?

Staline would not have stopped at the FNB line! But if somehow the 12SS Hittler Jugend and other crack divisions could have been moved there from Caen, DOnt you think the FNB line could have held?
If an armistice could have been agreed to in the West, the Germans had like 50 divisions in France and another 18 in Italy to move to the East. Isnt this similar to what Germany did in WW1 after Brest Litovsk. |

12-th SS was just a shadow at that time. Check your dates, check the "Falaise Gap" stories. Let's not compare ww1 with ww2...
You have your oppinion, I have mine and they're opposite, OK? Let's call it quits, then: check the poll, also - it's a tight run ![]() Good night! M3 over and out! -------------------- M

Oh, one more question: what would have been the Soviet motive for an armistice?

Hallo everybody,
I'm sorry to have such a brutal intervention, at least for those who believe (do they really?) Romania had a chance to stop alone on the famous FNB line the soviet offensive at the end august 1944, but I'll ask: do you have/had somebody for your family, or talked with, or read somebody's journal/memoires, who actually fight on the front in august 1944? Because if you really had, you know that without german troops and aircraft, our boys see no chance to stop the russians. At least this is the oppinion of at least 3 veterans I talk with, who did not know each other, fight in different units, on different specialities, but had the same oppinion...weird isn't it? Waiting your interventions... |

Not only the veterans, also historians seem to agree to that! If we look at the bigger picture (i.e. Stalingrad, Kursk, Dnepr line etc.), we see that from 1942 onwards, not even the Germans could take on a direct Red Army onslaught! Let alone the Romanian Army!
