The 151st Infantry Battalion "Razboeni" has been awarded by the Romanian president with the Military Virtue Order (Knight Class), for his activity in the recent zones of conflict.

It is the first decoration of this kind awarded since 1945.

In what respect it is the first one? There are 5 other military units that have received the Military Virtue Order.

I have exams biggrin.gif I don't follow the TV news much. Only read newspapers.
The two sergeants killed in Afghanistan were also awarded the Military Virtue Medal Knight class.

Good luck to your exams!

They have received the war badges (i.e., with swords) of the Military Virtue Order in 2003. In 2004, 21 other officers have also received war badges of the Military Virtue Order in various classes.

Correct. I meant Order, not Medal. The two are very different things. The Medal is teh highest war award for NCOs. The Order can be given also to officers and is similar to the Aeronautical Virtue Order. If I am not mistaking, the Order did not exist during WWII. Dragos meant that the medal hasn't been awarded since 1945. But the medal hasn't been awarded yet, since there were no exceptional deeds on the battlefield in either Afghanistan or Irak to justify it.

And both these orders are equal in rank to the Naval Virtue Order.

Indeed, only the Aeronautical Virtue Order existed in WWII. The Military Virtue Order and the Naval Virtue Order are new creations intended to lead to a system of orders that will reward all the branches of the armed forces.

The war Medal for Military Virtue has not been awarded yet, but a war Medal for Aeronautical Virtue has been awarded. What is really odd is that the war Medal for Aeronautical Virtue and the war Medal for Naval Virtue are not equivalent to the war Medal for Military Virtue. Thus, the Army does not have a similar war medal to the Aeronautical Virtue Medal or the Naval Virtue Medal. Its place was supposed to be filled by the Valour and Faith Medal, but the creation of an Order for Valour and Faith in the near future will lead to an imbalance in the national system of war orders.

I guess this is another example of the "professionalism" of some members of the Romanian press. They should have learnt by now that if they never head about it, it does not mean that it did not happen.

The following units have already received the knight class of the Military Virtue Order (i.e., their flag was awarded the order):
89th Communication Centre (2003)
26th Infantry Battalion "Neagoe Basarab" (2004)
280th Infantry Battalion (2004)
96th Enginners Battalion (2004)
265th Military Police Battalion (2004)

And now the 151st Infantry Battalion "Razboeni" has joined the list.

I don't think medals can be awarded to units. Only orders can.

It may be my misunderstanding. Let's wait for some written articles.
