Friday 13th of October 2006, at the National Historical Museum of Bucharest will be inaugurated an exhibition “DACIA AVGVSTI PROVINCIA” with artifacts of Roman times, as a preview of the antiquity section of the museum permanent exhibition. (See:
http://www.mnir.ro/dap/parada-militara/defilare.html ). The inauguration will be preceded by a parade on the streets of Bucharest (Calea Victoriei), from The Military Circle (Cercul Militar) to the building of the National Historical Museum, performed by a group of Hungarian “legionaries”. These reenactors belong to the historical association “Savaria Legio Egyesulet” from the city of Szombathely, western Hungary. They commemorate the traditions of the XVth Apollinaris Legion of Savaria (the old name of Szombathely) and are very well equipped and trained according the roman military style of 1st-2nd centuries AD. The group is composed of people of different professions: physicians, lawyers and even the mayor of the city of Szombathely. This summer they have also participated at ”The Roman Days” International Festival, organized at Zalau – Porolissum ( see: http://www.zalausj.ro/ro/program.htm# and http://www.zileleromane.ro/index.html ). After the parade, the Hungarian legionaries will salute the full scale copy of Trajan’s Column in the National Historical Museum. It’s very interesting to see Hungarian enthusiasts remembering the Latin / Roman military traditions in the capital city of Romania. What about the Romanian amateurs? We pretend to be the unique continuers of the Latin civilization in the eastern part of Europe. It seems that on Saturday the Hungarian reenactors will make some demonstration of roman warfare techniques and living history in the Park Herastrau. Some aspects from today’s Roman Army show in Buchrest.
The Centurion, a Vexilarius, an Aquilifer and an auxiliary soldier (bowman). An interesting modern trace – a bar code. Tomorrow, the interested people could see a fighting demonstration , in Park Herastrau (the entrance from Charles de Gaulle place), between 11.00 and 13.00.
