QUOTE (Florin @ December 12, 2011 08:09 am)
Great news!

In Wikipedia/FW-190, the initial sentence: "The Royal Romanian Air Force received from Germany a number of Fw 190 A-8s used for defensive purposes in metropolitan areas." was inserted back, deleting my "The Royal Romanian Air Force did not receive Fw-190 while Romania was an Axis Ally."

That's the "beauty" of Wikipedia I was referring to earlier, which stops me from adding/correcting anything over there.

By the way, Fw 190s were flown by Rumanian pilots from Rumanian bases well before 23 August 1944, albeit those carried Luftwaffe markings.

True, Romanian pilots flew a number of aircraft in German markings. See for example the Bf110 nightfighters. There were also German aircraft flown with Romanian markings that were only "on loan".
The fact still remains that there were no FW 190 in Romanian inventory or Romanian markings before August 1944.

I think that you, Denes, MUST get involved in Wikipedia when it comes to your aviation nowlege. To paraphrase the well-known saying, "All it takes for stupidity to prevail is for smart people to do nothing." wink.gif

Found on Axis History Factbook/Ro.A.F.
The 22 planes were not Fw-190, but Arado Ar 196 (only two assembled, the other 22 captured by soviet troops in containers).

Ooooh... that is another headache...
All we know about the "crated Ar196" is based on eyewitness reports. In as far as I know, there is no document-based evidence anywhere. Also, to compound problems, those crates may have contained He114 aircraft, which were also on order. This book has some info, but not enough. http://modelism.ro/Books/Publishing-Modelism?product_id=547
The one thing that we know for sure is that no Ar196 ever entered ARR service.

Sorry, I will not, as I don't agree that anyone can modify/revert what someone has written earlier.

I tried my luck once, and the statments supported by sources were reverted immediately by the previous writer. I will not do this stupid game any more.

Whoever is interested what I know about ARR, etc., should read my books (and use them as references for Wikipedia, if found trustworthy). wink.gif

Thank you, Radu. You may have the surprise I had: in one day or two your edit may be cancelled. I did not attach references or sources when I edited. If you mentioned references, your edit may stay.

No problem, your choice.
