Hi nox,

Do you know if the emblem (from the picture) used on this Stug is from a german unit ?

I would like to add this to the color profile.

The picture was taken the 23.05.1943 during a visit of a Rumanian officer.
Perhaps a demonstration in prevision of the delivery.

This was happening in Crimea in May 1943. The StuG was German, not Romanian and very likely it was not a demostration prior to delivery.

I knew this stug wasn't rumanian

Because I'm new on this forum I want to saluta all its membres.

Here's a picture with a Stug 40 and some romanian soldiers. Sadly the picture offers no clues about where and when it was made. The person who gave it to me said that it appears to be made in the suumer of 1944, in near Roman (in Moldavia).

Could you take a closer look and tell us if there is Zimmerit on this Stug ?!

Yes the vehicle has Zimmerit coating. I find this rather puzzling because I'm not sure if romanian vehicles where coated with Zimmerit. The vehicle can also be actually from a german unit and only given to the romanians.

The vehicle wasn’t built specially for the Romanian army; it was built to German army specifications and captured by the Romanian army.

Also many captured vehicles weren't even repainted just the markings were changed and then used in action.

Let's don't forget that : " Between November 1943 and August 1944 Germany delivered 108 Sturmgeschütz III Ausf G that were distributed to the 1st Armoured Division, the 8th Motorised Cavalry Division and the Armoured Detachment of the 4th Army"
We can't know for sure if the Stug from the picture is a captured one, or a loaned one, or if it's "a Romanian" one ....

I know but the vehicles recived were "standard" without any modifications or improvements as it was the case with the prewar armor bought from the Czech.

And some of the 108 Stug III given by the Germans were used vehicles, also the lack of a special designation proves that they were without any modifications.

Probably some had Zimmerit and others hadn’t, being different models. All vehicles made between September 1943 and September 1944 had Zimmerit applied also the vehicle from the picture has the cast gun mantle (Topfblende) so it is made after November 1943.

I doubt that the picture was taken in Moldavia because the vehicle has no markings, it's missing the Schurzen and it looks banged up.
