Stalin?

Heh! My history teacher always used to say that as far as the evil thing goes, Hitler could have sucked Stalin's socks... rolleyes.gif

Nice color pictures! What a megalomaniac though...

Yep you name it, though the other guy probably meant
what Hitler said once " my best tool to beat the Russians
and kep the country under control is Stalin" After all
they tried to be friends at first....appearently there are
reports of not only of megalomanies but homosexuality
with someone in Italy during his painter time.

It is true that a statement such as "Hitler was a child in comparison with evil Stalin" cause an image of "more acceptable evil" for Hitler, which in itself is unacceptable! Seriously speaking both were monsters of mass murder, directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of millions of people, the discussion about who is bigger and who is smaller is, in my opinion, useless. For most of the Jewish, French, British, Russian, Serbian, Greek and some other nations Hitler is probably seen as much worse as Stalin, for some Ukraineans, Lituanians, Lettons, Finns, Hungarians and Romanians and some other nations Stalin is perceived to be much worse then Hitler. Maybe the Poles who have felt atrocities from both nazi and communists can be more objective in this issue?

At least the Nazi were openly evil against Poland from start to end.
I say the Stalin and the Communists were worse, because they had betrayed any hope the Poles may have toward somebody facing a common enemy.
Remember that during the uprising at Warsaw the Red Army not only did not move one finger to help, but they had forbidden the Americans and British to come by air and drop supplies, and when they eventually allowed it, it was too late anyway.

Even if these photos were not publicly known before, I would say "nothing new".
I would be really curious to see unknown photos with Hitler as child, or teenager, or as poor and hungry rogue on the streets of Wien, when (could you guess it?) the only customers for his paintings were the Jews who had small street retail shops.
In a documentary they argued that his first love was a Jewish girl, when he was teenager.

Another oppinion regarding his hate towards jews stated that one of his schoolmates was a jew, smarter than him, which also helped him "improve" his grades, IIRC...
Very Freudian!

I agree that they are responsible for that, but we also have to be aware that holding Hitler and Stalin as the monsters of history also serves an ideological purpose.

Massacres and reprisals, the direct and indirect killing of millions was nothing new:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_m...ng_British_rule

What made Hitler and Stalin particularly dangerous was the fact that they were ruthless revolutionaries that ideologically and militarily challenged the status quo system (the (neo)liberal capitalist democratic system). Since that system eventually prevailed over their own, they have to be given as an example.

Imperialist,
indeed looking from this point on the things, you're right! On the other hand there are many differences (even a lot of them if we think better!) f.i. the extermination or attempted extermination of entire populations and/or social classes (applies to Hitler's Germany or Stalin's Russia!) are, from what I know something new (I refer to elements that differentiates the two dictators in killings ordered by their predecessors).

They did not forbid anything! Simply they wouldn't allow the allied planes to land and refuel on Soviet Airforce's airports. They claimed they couldn't guarantee their security! My 2 cents are on the fact that the Allies weren't so eager to commit, either...
