Gentlemen,

some months ago I bought Order of Yugoslav Flag 1st Cl. given to Dumitru Popa.

I found that:
Comrade Dumitru Popa (not Dimitru!) was born in 1925, moved in 1966 into the "Inner Circle" of the CPR and visited officially - as the general major of Bukarest - Vienna for one week in june 1968. He is also mentioned as a diplomat.

Comrade Popa belonged to the very top-communists in the late 1960s in Romania and so the got his YU-Flag 1cl.

I tried to get additional Information using email address found on the homepage of Major of Bucarest but without success.

Is it true that he belonged to the TOP communists in Romania?
Do you have any additional documentation or do you know where could I find some?

thank you
best regards

Hi,Wladimir
DP was indeed a high ranking comunist oficial.Until 1971 he was a member of Executive Comitee of PCR and "primar general"of Bucharest. Before this he served as first secretary of Deva county.During his time as mair ,Bucharest got its first neon ads,New Year lights, night clubs were open, there were no problems with food suplies and life generaly became beter. For this achievements,Ceausescu sackd him fro his position and from CE and as a punishment sent him ambassador to North Corea. After his return he served as Secretary of State in "Min. Constructzilor Industriale" but never returned to the inner circle. He finished his career as ambassador toYugoslavia. He was, probably, the best maior Bucharest had during comunist times.

Waldemar,hi again
I think the eassiet way is to chek in a public library the colection of " Informatzia Bucurestiului" for 66-71.You can try "Scanteia" also.
He has two sons,Adrian and Vlad that are in their fifties now and one of them owns a large chunk of Danube Delta. Both are living in Bucharest but I dont know where.

Hmmm...somehow this doesn't surprise me, due to this father's prominent role in the pre-1989 communist regime.

But who knows, maybe it's just a coincidence.
