Confusion about R2s

I have become confused about the colours of R2 tanks during World War 2.

I have been told that they were painted olive green, or some other similar shade, and that only the Pz 35 (t) supplied by the Germans were grey. I have also been told that other Romanian tanks were simply left the colour of the country they were manufactured in eg. R 35 was left French Army green etc.

But I have just seen the cover of the book scanned by 'Carol I' in another topic on Romanian tanks, showing an R2 light grey, lighter than German field grey.
I am very confused now.

Were R1 tanks the same grey, or left green?

The book cover has originally been posted by Kepi and the grey shade in the image is probably the result of a faulty rendition during the scanning process.

The color of the R2 on that cover is wrong, unfortunately all the color plates in that book are not right, it was a problem with the print, also it is a scan and the color brightness differs from PC to PC.

Here to assure you, I will post a picture of the right front drive wheal of the TACAM R2 from the MMN in Bucharest when the vehicle was prepared for a new coat of paint, that hasn’t yet received, this is probably the first coat of paint that this vehicle received. All the Romanian armor had that color except the vehicles received from the German army in the front line (LT-38 and the first PzKpfz III and IV) and the Polish R35 that had French camo.



PS The German army gave us LT-38's (PzKpfw 38 (t)) no LT-35.

The colour of R-2 tank is not very accurate represented on the cover of the book. It is too bluish as a result of some printing shortcoming, so it looks gray instead of khaki. The scanning process might be another cause of colour distortion. Here is a more accurate image of the book cover.



The real aspect of the khaki paint on the Romanian equipment is still a mater of debate. The old paint traces, found under several coats of modern paint, on military vehicles in the museum could be, as Mihnea suggests, a good source of information about how really was the original WW2 khaki paint. But these traces of colour could be also influenced by the 60 years of open air display in the Museum courtyard.

Actually, 26 more were delivered in late 1941 by the Germans.

I'm sorry for the mistake, yes the Romanian army did received 26 LT-35 in July 1942 as replacements for the 26 R-2 that were lost in 1941.

I am no longer confused.
I will paint the R2 models I have Olive drab.
The photo of what is possibly the original paint is very interesting.

Do you know when the R2 will be restored and on view again?
When I travel to Buacharest I would like to see it.
I imagine it will look quite handsome when it is repainted.

Is there an R1 as well in the museum?
