DAY ORDER BREVET 14 OCT. 1941

AND YOU , COMRADE,

PANAITESCU N. CONSTANTIN
FRUNTAS TR. CTG.1931 BATALION 14 MOUNTAIN HUNTERS

YOU TOOK PART AT THE BIG BATTLE BETWEEN NIPRU AND AZOV SEA.
WITH YOUR BRAVERY AND HEROISM, YOUR ENEMIES HAVE BEEN DEFEATED , FOLLOWED AND DESTROYED.
THE SUCCES OF THE CORPS OF MOUNTAIN HUNTERS WAS GLORIOUS. IT WILL REMAIN AS A BRIGHTLY LIGHT FOREVER OVER THE CENTURIES.
RELATE WITH PROUD THE HEROIC BATTLES OF YOU AND YOUR MOUNTAIN HUNTERS COMRADES.
DO NOT FORGET TO TELL , COMRADE, THAT THE CORPS OF THE MOUNTAIN HUNTERS HAS FOUGHT FOR 5 ENTIRE DAYS ALONE, ON A 50 KM FRONT, AGAINST 5 ARTILLERY BATTALIONS , ONE BRAVER THEN ONTHER,
ARMED WITH A LOT OF ARTILLERIES, WITH MOUNTAINS OF MUNITION. WITH A NUMEROUS AIRCRAFT WHICH HURLED DAY AND NIGHT , ABOVE YOU, WITH IRON AND FIRE.
DO NOT FORGET , COMRADE, TO SHOW THAT :
- YOUR ENEMY ATTACKED LIKE A BEE SWARM DAY AND NIGHT WITH NO STOPPING , WITH TANKS, WHICH WENT DEEPLY IN THE BACK, WITHOUT SCARING YOU.
- THEY SURROUNDED YOU MANY TIMES , BUT YOU DIDN'T LEAVE YOUR
POSITION.
- YOU ENDURES HUNGER. THURST AND COLD , BUT YOU HAVE NEVER DESPERATED AND YOU HAVEN'T LOST YOUR TRUST IN VICTORY.
TO TELL COMRADE THAT TOGETHER WITH THE MOUNTAIN HUNTERS YOU MADE A ` AROUND YOUR LEADERS WHO STAYED MOTIONLESS AT THEIR POSITIONS.
TO TELL , COMRADE, THAT THE WONDED SOLDIERS SUFFERED IN SILENCE
TO TELL FROM ALL YOUR HEART THAT THE DEDS WERE REVENGED: THAT ALONE AT THE BEGINING ,THEN WITH THE GERMAN ARMIES THE MOUNTAIN HUNTERS WROTE ONE OF THE MOST GLORIOUS PAGES
IN THE HISTORY OF THE WAR AGAINST BOLSHEVICKS.
DO NOT FORGET TO TELL COMRADE THAT YOU RESPECTED THE VOW MADE TO YOUR COUNTRY, THE KING OF THE CONTRY AND THE LEADER OF THE COUNTRY.
YOUR BIGGEST AWARD COMRADE IS THE KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU ACCOMPLISHED YOUR DUTY AND YOUR PROUD OF TAKING PART AT THE MOST IMPORTANT BATTLE OF THE CORPS OF THE MOUNTAIN HUNTERS.
TO CROSS YOURSELF FOR THE BROTHERS WHO FOUGHT SIDE BY SIDE TO YOU , BUT THEY DIED ON THE BATTLE FIELD!
TO REMEMBER YOUR CHIEFS WHO LED YOU AND ENSURED YOUR VICTORY.

I just read your very interesting post with regards the Mountain Hunters, while not strictly related to this post, can either of you identify this item I have in my collection, I believe its Mountain hunter / troop related.

25 October 1921 is the date of birth of Prince (later King) Mihai. That would explain the crown and the letter M on the obverse. The reverse is inscribed "NAŞI", which is the Romanian for GODFATHERS, so the piece could be related to the baptism of Mihai. I do not know however whether the mountain troops were his honorific godfathers or some individuals were chosen to act as his godfathers and then received the badge. Anyhow, it is quite interesting.
