I have some questions for those who have read a good deal of books about WWII in Romania (including Romanian ones):

1. Where could I find a list of the units stationed in Brasov (or nearby) on August 23, 1944? What about the Wehrmacht units?
2. I've read in a book a few quotes from another, unnamed Romanian book. The only indications were chapter's names, authors and pages: "Col. Atanase Chirita, Luptele din zona Brasov, p. 86, p. 88, p. 89, p. 91..."; "Gen. maj. Alexandru Tenescu, In zona orasului Sf. Gheorghe, p. 152, p. 154, p. 156-157...". Does anyone know what book this is?

Any help would me much appreciated!

The book is "Armata Romana in Razboiul Anti-Hitlerist", Editura Politica 1965.
This is a book consisting of recollections by various people, soldiers, "workers" that took part in the events around and following 23 August 1944.

That story is full of crap, I believe, an article about the actions of lt. Marin Nastase, called "a hero", and his unit had already been published in "Drum Nou" from 17 November 1944.

If that blog suggests that Marin Nastase invented his story in the 1970s-1980s just to be a communist hero or something, I believe other info might be just as wrong, and that's exactly the problem: you don't know what's true or not.

Besides, the story in that blog about his "heroic acts" in Brasov is pure fantesy, those who have read anything regarding Bateria albastra should notice that.

My grandfather was at the Don ...
1000 times more hero then all those guys together.
And btw.He never pretended of being a hero.
And he wasn't burried in the middle of the centrat alley of the military cemetry in Bucharest.

Neither did Nastase, but the communists needed heroes, and you know how they could exaggerate in those cases...

The sad story of your grandfather, as of many others who have fought in the east, does not make the story of Bateria Albastra less true.

First of all, anyone can write anything.
So any story written about this Bateria Albastra, can be true or faik.
As you wrote,comunists needed heros.
That's the chronic problem with romania, the real talented people, the real inventors, the real heros are moked ,forgoten, ignored. And the scums are raising like s....t in the water.

We all have the freedom to believe anything we want about everything. But first, we have to read as many sources as we can. I believe we got slightly offtopic anyway.
