Gents
Could anyone please help me with the following: How were the companies numbered in an infantry regiment? ie how were the companies designated? Thanks Bob |

Hello,
The companies were numbered consecutively starting from the first company of the 1st Battalion and going until the last company of the last battalion. |

Thanks Victor Can you confirm that the heavy/weapons companies were part of the sequence? Cheers Bob |

Good question. I will see what I can find.
From memory, the mountain troops battalion heavy weapons company wasn't numbered and neither was the cavalry's heavy weapons squadron. |

Thanks Victor - that's interesting but if you could find a definitive answer about the infantry regiments I'd be grateful Cheers Bob |

IF, and its very probable, the Romanian Army used the french style of numbering, then the rifle companies in an Infantry Regiment would be 1,2, 3 for the 1st Battalion, 4, 5 and 6 afor 2nd and 7, 8, 9 for the 3rd, the Heavy Weapons Companies being numberd differently as 1st, 2nd and 3rd for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalions respectively

So far I haven't many reference to a heavy weapons company and a number. Usually it was referred to as the heavy weapons company of the battalion X or regiment Y.
What I found so far was that in 1941, the 3/4th Motorized Vanatori Regiment of the 1st Armored Division had the 4th and 8th companies designated as machine-gun companies. |

In this thread I listed the complete OoB of the Rumanian 7th Corps during combat operations in Budapest city, in early 1945 (in Hungarian): http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?sh...indpost&p=34928
I hope it helps somewhat. Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on May 17, 2009 08:13 am |
