hello members, my friend in Austria has got a interesting combat knife, that is older literature determined as sowjetunion, but in russian forums no one accept this opinion, it looks more like a french inspired type with leather scabbard, its believed a east Europe area piece, probably WW1 period, his piece have inscribed probably capturing note of german owner "Gefr.Siegel R.57" Thanks for any help, best regards,Andy

Looks to me like a precursor to the WW2 Kampfmesser - definitely a German made piece IMO.

Unfortunally knife is not german origin as there are not confirmed in the area. And german collectors ask the question on various forums.

IMO - perhaps a German type ??? Definitely looks like a kampfmesser to me. But perhaps some other forumite will present a different theory.

Good luck with your inquiry.
