I'm trying to find information on my father who was a Fighter and test pilot during ww2. He manly flew the IAR 80 and 81, his plane ID was 84, he also flew the Me 109. Over Bucharest, Ploesti and the black sea. As far as I know he was decorated for his numerous kills and his father was General Constantine Iliescu (Chief of the Roumaninian military medical corp). Any info on either or, would be greatly appreciated. Neither appear on the information garthered on this site.

Edit: my mistake. It was Iliescu, not Ionescu. There was a lt. av. Mihai Iliescu who received the Virtutea Aeronautica Order Gold Cross class in 1941.

Mihail Iliescu Gr. ? vân. 1941 1 x bomb. 2 Constanta Total prima campanie, 1941 I found only one entry in my accidents/losses database regarding Cpt. Cpt.av.Iliescu is another person.
Lt.av.Iliescu Mihai in 1941 was in 8th FG and had an accident with IAR-80 No.76. I have found no victories for him. In 1942 had an accident with airplane made by Ing.Radu Manicatide and was injured at the right eye. In 1943 took part at the firing trials with Ikaria and Mauser guns mounted on IAR-80.More details maybe can be found in IAR-Brasov archives, but that in nowhere to be found. |

I thought so, that's why the caveat I gave. Thanks.
The information I have is certain, as it comes from a primary source. Do you have any other victory claims made by him?
Can you tell us which type was it?
Indeed, my second post was based on what I've found among the papers of the former IAR archives. Gen. Dénes P.S. Congratulations for your latest 'brainchild'! This post has been edited by Dénes on March 09, 2006 07:32 pm |
