Actually the person with the watches is not the soldier that hold the flag... The person with the watches is that officer (or NCO???) that hold that soldier that hold the flag . If you watch carefully the guy's left hand you'll see some white scratches... The watches were "erased" after. I saw a bigger picture of this photo... I suppose the the guy had around 4 or 5 watches...

There is a russian text on the back, claiming that these are Romanian soldiers fallen near Stalingrad. The ammunition box on the right seems to be from Portugal.

Are you sure it is an ammunition box?

I know for sure, from my grandfather, that they had available cans with sardines, "Robert" trademark, made in Portugal. He mentioned many times the Portuguese sardines they got on the Russian front.

But, the box could be very well what you said. It certainly has several words written on it, bit only "Portugal" is visible.

As for a favorite picture, I have many on my HD, which I can not load unfortunately. I like color Pictures alot- I think this rare one is one of the best.

That's the one.
It must be the original, since I've seen my copies much darker, and of bad quality and smaller, centered only on the planes.

I got color pictures of Romanians marching through Odessa, and Color pictures of Romanian Cavalry (Calrasci) in the Ukraine. As well as a color photograph of a Sturmovik shot down and romanians inspecting it.
