LIST OF CAMPAIGNS & BATTLES IN ROMANI, Chronological Order of Battles wanted.

To all the members of the forum, good evening or morning as the case may be

I am trying to list all the Battles in campaigns fought by the Romanians from 1916 to 1919, partly to try and make some sense of the order the Bars awarded to the 1916- 1918 Commemorative Cross of War, and the 1916 - 1919 Cross of war.

Also as it is connected with the campaigns fought, how were the crosses issued?
by determination of the soldiers service during 1916-1918, did that mean he got that particular cross and campaign bars for being in such an area of campaign??
Were records kept of issue and are they still in exsistence?

many thanks for your help, were the battles fought over a specific month or months in 1916, 1917, 1918, 1919 and if so do you know which?

Just for Example:

TURTUCAIA, Start 01- 01 - 1916 till - 19 -02-1916,
CARPAŢI '' 14- 04 - 1916 till - 31-08-1916

my dates are just an example.

I see the names DOBROGEA and DOBROGIA listed same place different spelling or two different locations?

Please forgive my ignorance on Romanian names, being Irish I find them just a little strange but then no doubt Ballina, Ballinrobe, Balla, Tourmakeady, Cruckspullaghdahn, Ballahderren would seen strange to your eyes if in Ireland.

Most likely it is a different spelling of the name of the region. As for the reason, I could only think that there were different manufacturers of the clasps/crosses, each with his own spelling version.

Ok, I will try to give some dates and explanations:

1. Ardeal
-refers to the intial offensive of the Romanian troops across the Carpathian Mountains into Transylvania and the subsequent defeat
-it lasted for almost 40 days, from the beginning of the war (for Romania) on 28 August 1916 to 8 Octoer 1916

2. Turtucaia:
-the destruction of the Romanian 17th Infantry Division in the fortress South of the Danube by the Bulgarian 3rd Army, which had an important impact on the state of mind of the Romanian society and general staff. Hopefully there will be an article on the site about it soon
- it lasted between 2-6 September 1916

3. Carpati
-it refers to the defense on the Carpathian Mountains, following the defeat in Transylvania
-it was made up of several different battles fought in several different sectors of the Mountains and lasted roughly between 10 October and 15 November

4. Cerna
-it refers to the sporadic fighting in a secondary sector of the front, which lasted between 28 August to 4 October 1916

5. Dobrogea/Dobrogia
-it is Dobruja, the region between the Danube and the sea and as Carol I explained, there were just two different spellings from the clasps.
-the fighting there lasted between 1 September and the end of Nvember 1916, when the Romanian troops were retreated to Moldavia, leaving just the river fleet and the Russian troops on that front.

OITUZ: Second battle of Oituz (August 1917)

SIBERIA: The Romanian Legion of the Allied Expeditionary Corps in Russia

ITALIA: The Romanian Legion in Italy (1918-1919)

6. Jiu
-it refers to the battles on the Jiu Valley and at Targul Jiu, which lasted between 23 October and 17 November 1916

7. Dunarea
-it refers probably to the fighting between 23-27 November 1916 with marshal von Mackensen's Danube Army

8. Bucuresti
-it refers to the battle of Bucharest or the Battle of Neajlov-Arges as it is also known.
- it took place between 29 November and 3 December 1916.

I see Carol I explained the 1917 battles already, so I won't do it again.
