Hi Guys,

In a recent copy of the French publication "Air Magazine" I found the following three books advertised:

"Les Bf109 Roumains" (AirMag Hors Serie No.1.) (15 Euros)

"L'Aviation Roumaine pendant la Deuxieme Guerre Mondiale" by Medin Robinescu and Tudor Liviu Morosanu. (34 Euros)

"IAR 80" (44 Euros).

All appear to be issued by the publishers of AirMagazine, who seem to use the excellent art work of Morosanu a lot.

Has anyone seen these books?

How good are they?

Are they worth the price?

Many thanks,

Sid.

The author of the text is Vasile Tudor. It is a very good work, especially for those who do not have other books by the same author, which cover the Bf-109s in the 1942-45 period. He also planned a book on teh Bf-109E in the ARR, but unfortunately it hasn't been published yet. It is full of good information, but the author's writing style can be a little unusual for those who aren't used to it. A good aquisition. I think I paid only 10 Euros for it 2 years ago.

I have the Romanian version. Except for the color profiles, it doesn't bring anything new, at least to me, and I believe it was inspired too much by Denes Bernad's Squadron Signal book on ARR. I have it, but I don't usually use it.

"IAR 80" (44 Euros).

The authors: Dan Antoniu and George Cicos are probably the only Romanians (together with Vasile Tudor and Valeriu Avram) that have spent a lot of years studying the archives and have tons of information, lacking unfortunately the funds to publish all they have. The book on the IAR-80, published in Romania in 2000, is a great book, although it contains many printing mistakes and gives teh information in a rather raw format, practically unfiltered, just as it was found in the archives, because of the rush to finally get it out of thge printing press. It is a superb book for those researching the IAR-80 in ARR service. If this is the French version, I think it is better written than the initial Romanian version and it contains more information.

Hope this helps.

Hi Victor,

Many thanks. You have just cost me 59 Euros plus postage and packing for the Bf109 and IAR 80 books! I already have Denes's book so I will leave the "Aviation Roumaine....." book for now.

Cheers,

Sid.

Hi D13th-Mytzu,

The advert for "IAR 80" comes from the December/January 2004/5 issue of AirMagazine.

It has "Souscription" at the top of the advert. Is this the French version of "pre-order"?

In any case, I have sent my money off and will let you know if and when it arrives.

I have a good feeling about this book. According to Victor, the authors are highly knowledgeable and I can see for myself in AirMag that the quality of Tudor Liviu Morosanu's colour and line illustration is extremely high. I presume he will have made a supreme effort for this particular subject.

Cheers,

Sid.

Yes, it is. You can pre-order the book, but you'll have to wait... As far as I know, the book is not available yet.

Hi Ruy,

Thanks for clarifying that. I will not hold my breath waiting.

Does anyone know if the Romanian edition is still available?

Cheers,

Sid.

Yes, the romanian version is still available, however I was hoping for the french version to be more rafined - romanian version was published in a rush so it has a brut form.

That's correct !
The book is NOT yet available !!
The "pre-order" status is "status quo" for about 2 years ... dry.gif
