Hi!
Could someone please tell me whether General Constantin Niculescu, commander of the 5th Army Corps from 20 March 1943 - 18 September 1944 is the same person as General Constantin Nicolaescu, Minister of War from 4 July 1940 - 6 September 1940. Many thanks in advance, VJK |

Actually, the 5th Corps commander was called Constantin Nicolescu. Before being named in this position he was the commander of the Bucharest military district, since spring of 1941. I do not know what position he held before that, but I suspect they are one and the same person.

Many thanks for that Victor! I got the spelling Niculescu from this very site, hence my confusion about the 3 different versions. Not knowing the subtleties of the Romanian language, is it common practice that the surname Nicolescu could also be spelt Nicolaescu. I ask, because the official site of the Romanian Ministry of National Defence (http://www.mapn.ro/indexro.php) gives the spelling of the Mninster of War as Nicolaescu.
