Well, "free one" - check out the title ABOVE the "Discussion related to Romanian Army in general. Organization, doctrine, individuals, equipment of infantry, cavalry, artillery, tank forces and auxiliary units" Did you?
Then check out where you posted your signature ID stuff and tell me and everyone else where does ww1 belong - at ww2 or at "Modern History"? Sit down! -------------------- M

If you meant solely Rumanian heroes connected to military actions, then this category might be the most appropriate one: Romanian Army at War.
Discussion on actions of Romanian Army that do not fit in the other forums. Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on March 27, 2009 07:02 pm |

In few days it will be 90 years from the start of the romanian offensive which liberated Transilvania in 1919. To remember the heroes that fought that time, here http://6dorobanti.ro/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1237991969/8#8 it is a report of the comemorating actions from yesterday.

Sorry, but I don't get it. At one hand, Transylvania was already under Rumanian control by April 1919. At the other hand, the Rumanian army's push into Transylvania started in late November 1918. Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on April 05, 2009 07:17 am |

To Denes.
Yes, Denes, you are right, but only partial. Indeed romanian army entered Transylvania in november 1918 and had control of this teritory in april 1919, but she controled only a part of the teritories which proclaimed the union with Romania in 1 december 1918. It was about half of the teritory of todays Transilvania, because romanian troops was halted in the so-called Clemenceau line. In large part, the teritory west from a line starting from Maramures, Cluj, Brad was under hungarian control. It contained the today Arad, Salaj, Satu Mare, Bihor counties, all Banat (or Timis-Torontal county) and part of today Cluj and Alba county. Politicaly, all these teritories declared their will to be part of Romania at 1 december 1918, but practically they were still under hungarian or allied control in spring 1919. Hungarian red army, consisting on some tens of thounsands men, backed up with strong artilery, concentrated until april 1919 on this new frontier or so-called Clemenceau line. Their hope was to resist on this line until peace congress, hoping that this western teritories will stay in Hungary. On the other hand, romanian army had to acomplished the main point of Romania's reason to enter ww1, the liberation of all teritories inhabited by romanians from former AH monarchy. Even today historians debate on "what if" scenarios regarding this offensive: some of them say that hungarian army was preparing to atack eastern part of Transylvania which was controled by romanian army or that she was able to resist long enough until peace congress in order to keep the teritory in Hungary; others say that romanians launched a preemptive atack due to this concentration of hungarian army, others say that even without this hungarian army concentration romanian army would atack in order to control all Transylvanian teritories inhabited mainly by romanians in order to fulfill the reason of entering ww1 and to acomplish the declaration of romanians from 1 december 1918. |
