Hey guys,
I'm developing a mod for Company Of Heroes, which adds Hungarians, Bulgarians, Soviets and Romanians. I'm quite well informed about the first 3, but I'm honestly clueless about the Romanian Army. What units were typical? How did a squad look like? How many people were in it? How modern was their equipemtn? Which units were their most basic ones, and which could be considered as elite? I've heard about the mountain infantry and their good performance, were there any others? Paratroopers, maybe Marines? Thanks in advance, Bence Also, which tanks were the heaviest ones they could have gotten? I heard rumours about T-34s, but that hasn't been confirmed yet. The Panthers they were about to get were sent to Hungary due to the coup. This post has been edited by TigerTanker on April 09, 2013 07:14 am |

Thanks for the reply. As far as I know, during the Axis era, Antonescu focused on quanity and not quality. Hasn't it changed after 23rd August, 1944? I know the Soviet actions on disbanding elite formations, like most units of the Mountain Infantry and even the Cavalry. What happened to the Marines? Were any of them in combat after switching sides?
I suppose the Romanian conscripts were more effective than the Soviet counterpart, and I also heard of several successful operations carried out by the Army. Is it really true that they lacked good officers? |

actually antonescu was focusing on guality, romanian army was focusing on quantity in interwar period, in order cu counter an both hungary and buagria in the eventuality of a combined atack of this two countries
he focused as mush as it was posible on quality, on motorization romanian marines were not elite units they were second line units with the task to defend danube's delta and the shore, not for offensive actions but he established the fist paratrooper unit and also some commando units |

and i dont know if romanian conscrips were better than the soviets one
maybe they had a better training, some soviets constips as far as i know had two weeks of trainig, but the russian one had a better equipment and after romanian units crossed the dniester theyre motivation was running out, while the soviets units were far more motivated its hard to tell this they were good in defensive operations but the only units with offensive potential were the mountain corp, cavalary corp, and 1st armored division |
