that's not Luxemburgisch, that's just bad bad ortography.

Perhaps he couldn't attend a German language school and his ortography was "by ear". I've seen similar writing style of Hungarians who could not attend Hungarian school.

that is most likely. i've seen diaries of regular soldier, including my uncle's letters from the front, with decent ortography. and they were hardly intellectuals.
while most writings of this type have some errors here and there, sometimes, like in this case, the mistakes are striking.

My mother was also a transylvanian saxon and I have sometimes the same issues with ortography and gramatic. I learned german at home, I speak german almost daily, but write and read much less often, because everything is written in romanian. When I write in german, I stop and think quite often. That is probably the case also with the man. He just wrote how it sounded to him.

These photos are amazing. I think they could be the centrepiece of an interesting book. I am a member of a working group that is trying to form an Anglo-Romanian friendship society in Great Britain. If we are able to form a society it is possible that it would have the resources to publish such a book.
