I am a founding member of ARPIA. I participated a couple of times at their reunions, and even held a small presentation at one time.

If you're interested to meet former members of the air force (mostly post war) and civilian aviation, it's worth attending it. But not much is happening regarding history of wartime aviation, per se. True, last time I was there was a couple of years ago...

When I saw this topic title for the first time, in the list of newest posts, I was a bit surprised.
Arpia is also name for a moth.

Order: Lepidoptera. Family: Noctuidae. Genus: Arpia Schaus

Nice! Have you received any "help"/recognition from the state?

Thank you.
For a person unaware at all about A.R.P.I.A., the most interesting thing is that first time the association was started 85 years ago.

Back then it was called ARPA.

As Denes said, the current discussion are centered mostly on post-war events.

A common expression used in the United States is: "You are on your own, baby !"

I think is wrong... to do performance in research, the historian/researcher must be sustained by the state, in many ways. Like in all other domains of research - medecine for exemple. Imagine a medical researcher doing all "on his own", like in XVIII century... Research is not a personal business, but a way to preserve national memory.

Me? No, not at all. And I don't expect it, either.
All I request is to let me do research.
But this new secrecy law makes research very-very cumbersome, at least for somebody, who is not residing in Rumania.

Gen. Dénes.

By 2005 the Romanian government already requested to declare and submit for approval any book older than 50 years (or something there) that you want to take or send abroad. In that case, I sent by Romanian mail all kind of books printed in the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. If I remember right, they were not regarded just as quantity : I had to fill in forms the title of every book.

Not only for them; I had some difficulties myself, the "green Romanian" which I am (roman verde... tongue.gif )

If I remember well, I have demanded to Military Archives of Pitesti the personal files of two well known romanian aviators, Dan Vizanty (for my book) and Nadia Russo. They told me there are not such files in the archives.... In 2009 or 2010 was this discussion.

Oh, really?! Of course there as to be some information in there, maybe not a "file", but the "guys" in there seem to be extremely secretive! Phew!
