Hello ,
I would like to build the IAR 80 model ( MPM 1/72 ) with camouflage for the aircraft number 109, Eskadrila 53, Grupul 7. I found on this forum one photo, analogical scheme for aircraft no. 112. and any photos of model. I have a few questions: The replacement rudder was without Romanian stripes but his color?? I think red ( Aircraft no. 112) is unusual. Color of the spinner is really yellow-black or only yellow ?? Is possible to find another information of this aircraft ( pilot´s name, any photos ...) ? Please help me, David, Czech Republic This post has been edited by kokta on January 24, 2006 06:09 pm |

The "Escadrila 53" was independent squadron ('41-43) when IAR80 was used and it's wrong mentioned as part of "Grupul 7Vt."
It is not an replacement rudder. More than one plane (no 109,112,114 ) had the rudder overpainted (and not replaced . It is believed that the overpaint color was red. This planes were used in a training unit and it could probably depict "enemy" planes in mockup dog fight ( first "top gun "school ? )
I suggest to paint the spinner 1/3 yellow and 2/3 black. This post has been edited by Cantacuzino on January 20, 2006 08:18 am |

S/n 109 was listed in early 1944 as part of the 1st Fighter Flotilla's training squadron.

No. 109 was an I.A.R. 80A; therefore, the 'A' should be on the fin, too. Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on January 20, 2006 02:13 pm |

Yes, you are right. I made the correction. I found the same mistake on color profile of IAR80 nr 133 in "Rumanian Air Force-The Prime Decade 1938-1947" from Signal squadron editor This post has been edited by Cantacuzino on January 20, 2006 07:24 pm |

Yes, you're correct. Here is the e-mail address where you can contact the colour profiles' author, Don Greer: squadron@squadron.com

Thank you very much for your help. This is excellent information for me. I will paint this aircraft identically as the profile above.
This profile is interesting as the camouflage pattern is also applied under the fuselage. This is not notable in many photos or other sources. I believe the majority of aircrafts have fuselage undersurfaces light blue (for example No. 112 or some models of No.109 which I´ve seen) However I hope this profile seen above is correct and I accept it. When I assemble and finish my model, I will post it there. David |
