SONGS and MARCHES of the Romanian Army!

Always wanted to put this post ever since I joined here. I'm very interested in Songs that -were-, and still are sung today.

I'd ask anyone who knows the Text (the words) for the following songs to please put them here or email them to me. I have trouble finding these songs on the internet and don't even know who to ask. Some of them I know partially, other's not that well...

in alphabetical order here are some songs that I partially like:
1 hour it took me to write all this, hope you appreciate it. ;-)

A-P

... aripi romanesti aripi vulturesti, ....english title: "Romanian Wings"'Romanian wings, eagle wings....... (an airforce song)

-Avem o mindra Tara- "We have a proud Land" ....

biggrin.gif
English:"Old man come and tell us.." A world War 1 song about the horrbile battle at Marasesti... lyrics: "Old man, come tell us about the battle of Marasesti where we were victorious, where we were victorious and beat all the ennemies of our flag...
(Had fun translating this into german, maybe denes can tell me if it's correct) biggrin.gif laugh.gif

-Cântec Ostãsesc- "Solder's Song" a very beautyfull and 'cheery' Army Song - "armele-ti intinereste inima in piept....juram...tara noastra draga sâ-aparam..

-Cântecul lui Stefan cel Mare- "Song of Stefan the Great, the ruler of Moldavia" ...
(complete song will follow soon)

-Cantul Unirii- (The Song of Unity) Text soon to follow

-Cea din urma noapte a lui Mihai Viteazul- "The last night of Michael the Brave"

-Dac-am plecat, Ardealule- (Farewell ardeal) Song about Ardeal region of Romania) ("We've never been beater, and never shall be!" The hour of Victory will soon arrive, we have a proud and dear land - the foe who now loughs at it, shall tremble soon. Through acts of bravery and machine gun fire, our army will create a path, we-ll cross the old frontier again, the time for victory is almost noon! The foe who now lought at our land - Shall tremble soon !
"Dac-am plecat, Ardealule...
Dac-am plecat, Ardealule, din tine,
Nu-i vina noastrã, iarãsi vom veni.
Avem si iarãsi vom avea;
Dusmanul, care astãzi râde,
Va tremura privind la ea.
Prin vijelii si foc de mitralierã,
Armata noastrã îsi va face drum.
Vom trece iar spre vechea frontierã,
Dreptatea noastrã e cu noi acum.
Avem o tarã scumpã si mândrã,
Avem si iarãsi vom avea;

English: Everybody knows this song, it's the national anthem of Romania today. "Wake up Romanian" - a very appropriate title, I would say. (text & translation will soon follow)

-Graiul Neamului- "The Nation's voice" that's the best translation I can give, a very patriotic song, possible from the 1800's, but not really a military one. Very profound, quite nationalistic.
"Fie-a voastrã-ntreaga tarã
Neamului.
Vor cãta mereu dusmanii, Graiul nostru sã-l omoare.

-Hora Unirii- "The 'Hora' of Unity" one of the most poppular folklore songs, composed by Alexandru Flechtenmacher, a Romanian of German origin.
"Hai sa dam mana cu mana
Cei cu inima romana,
Sa'nvartim hora fratiei
Pe pamantul Romaniei. Iarba rea din holde piara,
Piara dusmania'n Tara,
Unde-i unul nu-i putere
Amandoi suntem de-o mama,
De-o fapture si de-o seama,Ca doi ochi intr'o lumina,
Ca doi brazi dintr'o tulpina. Amandoi avem un nume, Amandoi o soarta'n lume.
Eu ti's frate, tu mi-esti frate, In noi doi un suflet bate. Vin' la Milcov cu grabire,
Sa-l secam dintr'o sorbire, Ca sa treaca drumul mare,
Peste-a noastre vechi hotare. Si sa vada sfantul soare,
Intr'o zi de sarbatoare, Hora noastra cea frateasca
Pe câmpia romaneasca."

-Imnul Eroilor- (The Heroes Hymn)

-Marsul lui Iancu- "Iancu's March" This is perhaps the most famous song in the romanian army, and the most well known. It's about the 19th century hero Avram Iancu who fought against the Hungarian occupation. A national hero, everyone knows Iancu...
Iancule mare, bravule tare,
Iancule mare, bravule tare,
Cu noi sã fii,
Tu însoteste si însufleteste,
Pe ai Tãi fii.
Sunt gata, stau cu totii, sã se coboare-n vãi,
Sã izgoneascã hotii si-ai Neamului cãlãi.
Iancu mergea-nainte pe-un cal aprigut
Si peste-mbrãcãminte purta piele de urs.
Iancule mare, bravule tare, cu noi sa fii,
.......Nevestele cu jale, privindu-i lacrimind,
ii urmareau in vale cum se duceau curgind...."
Cine stã-n cale, Iancule mare
Si brav Român,
Fulger si trãznet, peste-a lui crestet,
De la Români.

-Imnul Regal / Traiasca Regele- (Long live the King) A monarchist song.
"Traiasca Regele in pace si-n onor, de tara iubitor si aparator de dreptate, ...fie domn glorios...fie-n vechi norocos in...??.... o doamne sfinte, ceresc parinte, sustine cu ata mina Coroana, Coroana Romana. Traiasca patria in soarele ceresc... .....O doamne sfinte, ceresc parinte, sustine cu ata mina Coroana so tara Romana."

-La luptã- (To battle!) To battle, for the cross and for rightousness, forward all, forward brother for God is bringing us to glory....

-Marsul Vanãtorilor de Munte- The March of the Mountain Troops, very nice, very inspiring and very rare and difficult to find. I posted a thread earlier about this song but got little help with it. Maybe a guy from the Army can help us, every Mountrain Troop of today must know this song:
"Sus pe crestele abrupte, unde Vulutu-i stapan, urca Vinatori de Munte........."
Translation: "High on top of the cliff, where the Eagle Master is... climb the mountain Troops......"

-Ostasi ai Cerului Albastru- Soldiers of the blue Sky- An airforce song. Good melody, well chosen words.
Ostasi ai cerulul albastru, ai Romaniei Bravi Aviatori..... .... ostasi ai cerului albastru, ne aruncam sageata printre nori."

-Pe-al nostru Steag e scris Unire- "On our flag stands 'Unity'!"Song of 1913 (composed earlier) , and one of the best and most famous of the Romanian Army songs, really inspiring. Really good song and one of my favorites. It goes like this: "the one who fears the heavy battle, he is a coward, a lost man - but we, united throughout the ages, always Victorious we will be! biggrin.gif I rate this song as one of the best, and give it 5 out of 5 stars.!
"Pe-al nostru steag e scris: Unire!
Unire'n cuget si-n simtiri,
Si sub mareata lui umbrire,
Vom infrunta orice loviri.
Acela'n lupta grea se teme,
Ce insusi e ratacitor, Iar noi uniti in orice vreme,
Vom fi, vom fi, invingatori. Acela'n lupta grea se teme,
Ce insusi e ratacitor, Iar noi uniti in orice vreme,
Vom fi, vom fi, invingatori.
Am inarmat a noastra mana
Ca sa pazim un scump pamant. Dreptatea e a lui stapana,
Iar Domnu-i adevarul sfant. Acela'n lupta grea se teme,
Ce insusi e ratacitor, Iar noi uniti in orice vreme,
Vom fi, vom fi, invingatori. Acela'n lupta grea se teme,
Ce insusi e ratacitor, Iar noi uniti in orice vreme,
Vom fi, vom fi, invingatori.!"

Songs O-Z

-O, Românie-
de Nicolae Cristea Arges
"O, Românie, Patria mea,
Prin câte lupte si ce soartã grea,
Tu ti-ai croit un mare viitor
În ciuda oarbã a tuturor.
Menire-naltã ai de-mplinit
Sã aduci pace în Rãsãrit,
Sã fii un soare strãlucitor,
Sã dai lumina ta tuturor.
Din cer Prea Sfântul, cu mâna Sa,
Pe-al sãu popor brav va proteja,
Fãcându-l Rege pe-acest pãmânt
Si scut de pazã tronului sfânt.
Iar de primejdii si vecini rãi,
Te-or apãra legionarii tãi,
Se vor lupta ca Iancu si Mihai
Pân' te-or preface în dulce rai"

 -Pui de Lei- -(Eroi au fost, eroi sint inca, si-or fi cit neamul Romanesc)- "Young Lions" 'there were heroes and there will always be...' (Also a pre-WW2 song) This song I remember hearing during the 1980's when I was a Pioneer.. biggrin.gif (I don't remember hearing it ever since, it seams these kind of nationalistic songs no longer are sung, or have dissapeared compleatly.
Si-o sa mai fie, si-or-fringe dusmanii cei rai, si-n vita Daciei si-a Romei...in vechi, in vechi, so-r naste pui de Lei!" biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

-Romanie, sã traiesti- "Romania, long live"!(Difficult to translate, need the next to entire song, - only know a small part)
"Iata ziua triumfala, iata visul inplinit, sus pe tron mãret se-arata Regele nostru iubit".... ...
*need more help here

-Romanie te slavim- (Romania we worship you) (all these songs are very old, possibly from 2 centuries ago or more)
...Cine crede in Dreptate cel putin el e cu noi, pentru sfinta libertate si sã-n invingem in razboi, pentru sfinta libertate si sa-n invingem in razboi!

-Romanie, Vatrã Strãbunã- "O Romania, ancient Vaterland, cradle of songs and of heroes, ...with arm in hand we will guard you..." A very profound song, a very sad military Choir, - sounds almost Medieval, Amazing song!!

-Saltã Romane- Can't give any information about this song, nor can I really translate the title....

(Song of the Infantry academy, at Botosani 1918.)
Si las-o urmã de luminã, Sã stii cã-i mare neputinta

-Sfantã zi de libertate- "Holy day of Liberty....To arms romanian brothers to arms, our arm shall crush all ennemies and opressors...For our people, for our people we will spill our blood, the Horn is calling us again, we throw ourselfs at the ennemy fire!..." -
Noi in Foc ne aruncãm" !!!

-Sfintã zi de 10 Mai- (Monarchist song) "Holy day of 10th of Mai"

-Tara, Tron si Tricolor- (Vaterland, Throne and Tri-color [flag] ) This song is at least from World War 1, if not earlier.
Translation: "Common brothers, always forward, fight for our land. We are noble soldiers, we'll show that to the ennemy! And from those who will remain, their brothers will tell them that we defended well our Vaterland, our throne and our flag..."
Reading about this song I think of world war 1 and how hundreads were mowed down by machine gun fire in a single day, - that's what this song means in "from those of us who will remain, their brother's will tell them....

-Treceti batalioane Romane, Carpatii- "Cross the Carpathians Romanian Batallions, to arms with flowers and leaves..!" - Our anthem in World War 1, and a very patriotic song, - today everyone knows it"
'Nainte spre marea Unire,
Hotarul nedrept sa-l zdrobim Sa trecem Carpatii, ne trebuie Ardealul
De-o fi sa ne-ngropam de vii. Cu sabii facuram Unirea cea mare
Spre Alba cu totii porneam Toti oamenii tarii semnau intregirea,
Vointa intregului neam. Cu totii eram regimente romane:
Moldova, Muntenia, Ardeal Fireasca unire cu patria muma
Ne-a fost cel mai sfint ideal. Aceasta-i povestea Ardealului nostru
Si-a neamului nostru viteaz.
Traiasca in veci trei culori.
Urmind comandantul suprem Treceti batalioane romane Carpatii
Traiasca in veci trei culori."

-Tricolorul- "The three Colours" (red yellow blue 'the romanian flag') - Romania's National anthem for most of the 20th Century. It was our anthem during a communist era, but the words were a bit different.

-Trompetele Rãsunã- (The Trompets are sounding!) The trompets are sounding through mountains and valleys, Romanians are gathering in the hundreads of thousands...! (Definately an army song) , and a good one too.. laugh.gif
(Need more help with this song)

-Vointa Neamului- "The will of the Nation" - (In OUR Romanian land, masters we want to be, and Free!, and with not others we will share it, never, never shall we share it!!. And never shall we romanians ever bow our heads to anyone, and our ancient motherland we will forewer know how to defend" We don't want to enslave others, but only to live our lives like the ancestors did....La la la la....la la la la la la la ......")
A dangerous song by today's standars, and a very political incorrect one too - (ie: It's not YOUR land anymore, it should belong to everybody now..!!)
La la, la la la la la, la-la la-la, la-la, la la-la, la la la la la la la la, la-la, la-la la la la la la la-la, la la, la la la - la la laaaaaaa......" Veri nice song, patriotic as usuall.

-other songs will be added to this list in alphabetical orders as they become available...
-More will follow-,....

Songs of the 1941 Campaign

-Marsul Basarabiei-* *- compus în 1941
(March of Bassarabia, *composed in 1941)

Azi noapte, la Prut, rãzboiul a-nceput,
Românii trec dincolo iarã,
Sã ia înapoi, prin arme si scut,
Mosia pierdutã astã varã.

Refren:
Mergem în câmpia Basarabilor,
Plinã de grâne, plinã de dor,
Si-n Bucovina cu mânãstiri si brazi,
Mergem la luptã, dragi camarazi.
Azi Prutul uneste pe fratii români,
Si Nistrul al nostru e iarã,
Iar Bugu-i hotar între noi si pãgâni,
Din Tisa la Bug vrem hotare.

Refren...

Refren...

Translation:
"Last night on the Pruth, the War has begun,
Romanians cross to the other side again, to take
back with sword and with shield, our soil that was lost
the last summer..

Refrain: "We go to the Bassarabian fields, full of grains
and joy, we go to the forest and churches of Bukovina lads!
We go to battle dear Comrades!!!
Today the Pruth unites our Romanian people,
the Nister is ours again! Bug river is frontier between us and the heathens!
The land between Tisa and Bug shall be ours!

Refrain:
Long live the romanian and his homeland,
the life he lived not long ago, never we will give,
never we will yeald, forever we'll remain faithfull. smile.gif

Toba Bate (The Drum is calling)

Toba bate, toba bate
Drum bun bravi romani,
Cu sacii legati la spate,

Cu armele-n maini.
Fie zi cu soare,
Fie cer noros,
Noi pornim la lupta
Si cantam voios - si cantam voios.

Toba bate, toba bate
Bate la romani.
Dumnezeu ne este frate
Si-l purtam in san.
Hai merem cu totii
Merem peste Prut,
Sa luam pamantul
Care l-am avut - care l-am avut.

Translation:
The drum is calling, the drum is calling,
farewell brave romanians! With sacks tied to the back
and weapons in hand..

Weather sunny day, or a cloudy sky
We go now to battle, and sing joyfully..

The drum is calling, the drum is calling
calling the romanians.... The dear Lord is our
brother, we wear him on our chest! Let's go comrades,
let us cross the Pruth, to take back the land
which we used to own.. :?
(I'll think of a better translation in english and try to make the words rhyme...)

*These songs were hastily composed during or after the at beginning of the second world war for us, on the 22nd June 1941. The composer probably was an infanterist or some low-rank soldier, and in no way it looks like these were created by the propaganda machine. I think it was the general mood of these days, and the general feeling at that time, to take back the land that was lost without a fight in 1940 and make the invader pay.

Acela'n lupta grea se teme,
Ce insusi e ratacitor,
Iar noi uniti in orice vreme,

Good work. Thank you for your efforts.

It is necessary to mention, imo, that some songs lyrics know variations, strophes added or removed, words replaced, esspecially those with no known authors. Also, in the "manele" era, I've met barbarous distortions on some sites.

I'm curious to see how many people have heard of even half the songs here. When I lived in romania until 1990, I have perhaps only heard of about 2 or 3 from this list.

There is a CD you can find called "Graiul Neamului", - Geto-Dacul I think has it, and it contain about 40% of the songs here.

Hope my list will grow comrade, - I hope it will grow..

I'll be posting marches as well, Parade Marches that is - I believe there are alot of them.

**PS: I "give you permission" ( biggrin.gif ) to post songs from the 1944-1989*** era as well, like "Cravata Rosie", or this other song made after the Russian Partisan song which goes like this..."infruntam furtuni, spargem munti in pumni....../ ...pina la ultimul sa piara, ce care ne-au cotropit!!!... smile.gif " (we face storms and break mountains with our fists....to the last man shall perish, the invader who conquered us...)
...a truly "grandiose-socialist" song... ohmy.gif
(***) - simply for historical research, because these songs are so hard to find today...

National State Anthem of the Romanian People's Republic - 1953

Text by Eugen Frunzã and Dan Desliu.
Music by Matei Socor.

“Te slãvim, Românie, pãmânt pãrintesc
Multe plaiuri sub cerul tãu pasnic rodesc,
E zdrobit al trecutului jug blestemat
Nu zadarnic strãbunii eroi au luptat
Astãzi noi împlinim visul lor minunat.

//...//

Înfrãtit fi-va vesnic al nostru popor
Cu poporul sovietic eliberator.
Leninismul ni-e far si tãrie si-avânt,
Noi urmãm cu credintã Partidul ne’nfrânt
Fãurim socialismul pe-al tãrii pãmânt. (...).

So what, that doesn't mean the songs are legionare and actually none of them are.

Anyway I really liked "Marsul Vanatorilor de Munte", "Cantec Ostasesc" and "Trompetele Rasuna".

Here is the list of songs on the site and the link directly to the song section http://www1.ournet.md/~sobo/nd.htm (in case some of you judge a book by its cover). When you think of Romanian nationalism do you think of the Iron Guard? I hope not. Maybe Victor and Dragos can add a section of military music to the site and upload some of the songs, since they belong much better on a site like this. Further more, this is a much more respectable site and people wont be put off by legionare propaganda and implicitly associate these songs with the Iron Guard. And finally this site is not complete without the songs that embodied our army's mission and surrely motivated the Romanian soldier in very difficult circumstances. :ro::keep:

Nicu Alifantis:
Traiasca Romania

Angela Rusu:
Buciumul iara rasuna

Sava Negrean Brudascu:
Ardelean, copil de munte
Foaie verde, foi de cimbru
Hai sa-ntindem hora mare
Pe Campia Libertatii
Pe dealu' Feleacului
Sa nu uiti in veci crestine
Vai, saracii, dusmanii

Tudor Gheorghe:
Tara mea

Veta Biris:
Basarabie frumoasa
Asa-i romanu
Din Tara Motilor
Mai, romane, romanas
Pe Campia Libertatii
Sus, sus, sus, la munte, sus
Tu, Ardeal

Corul Flacailor din Finteiusul Mare:
Dac-am plecat Ardealule
Nimic in lume nu-i mai sfant
Hai sa-ntindem hora mare
Transilvanie romana
Scoala romane
Haideti cu toti romani
Tara scumpa
Noi suntem cei chemati sa aparam
Din frumoasa Romanie
Treceti, batalioane romane, Carpatii!

Imnul de Stat al României:
Corul Radioteleviziunii Romane
Muzica Reprezentativa a Armatei

Sava Negrean Brudascu:
Transilvanie frumoasa
Doamne ,ocrotestei pe romani

Marsuri din razboi:
Mars de razboi

Graiul Neamului
Desteapta-te romane
Tropentele rasuna
Sfanta zi de libertate
Pui de lei
Marsul lui Tudor
Cantam libertatea
Marsul lui Iancu
Vointa neamului
Tricolorul
Salta romane!
Graiul neamului
Hora Unirii
Cantul Unirii
Batrane, vino si povesteste!
Imnul eroilor
Treceti batalioane romane,Carpatii!
Pe-al nostru steag e scris Unire
Cantec ostasesc
Ostasi ai cerului albastru
Romanie,vatra strabuna
Marsul vanatorilor de munte
Aripi romanesti

Don´t worry radu!
I don´t have nothing against or pro to legionar movement.
I agree with you, the song are great and I feel well listening them because they express love to our beloved country.
Is important to us to review our history.

A NATION WITHOUT HISTORY IS A NATION WITHOUT FUTURE.
TRÃIASCÃ ROMÂNIA!!!!

I see that almost all of the words are in English. Are there no Romanians on this forum? Why do we speake in English if we are Romanians?
Among the songs I saw on this page I recognized several Legionnaire songs. My question is: were there units made up only from members of the Iron Guard?
